I'm not big on the Psychiatric profession, however, like the alchemists of old, they have made pertinent observations without the benefit of parking a broomstick at the mall.
The subconscious does exist. Man spends his life in a public world masking who he truly is. In the ' subcutaneous ' existence his soul is very much aware of what is real and not.
When you touch on an area like that, expressly addressing that part of existence, it'll give off spiritual indicators of all kinds.
Even if well presented.
Ninety nine times out of a hundred the one doing the talking on such matters, doesn't know what he's talking about, or has a clearly deficient view of such matters.
Couple that with the fact that in his soul, man is opposed to anything other than himself as a god.
Like the joke:
" He's self made man who regularly worships his creator. "
That's why.

Many people who think they are "talking" about religion are actually pushing their own personal views on people. Discussions about religion are easy if you have the same set of beliefs, but unfortunately it doesn't usually work that way. Usually in discussions about religion (like politics) there is some point of disagreement and usually one or both people aren't willing to back down. This type of discussion can easily come between relationships and is often best avoided.
Please use your spell-check.

luvthedrew: You get the "prefab fundie answer" award for the day! That's two questions in a row! WOOHOO! You are "ignorant" as to other possibilities, and "arrogant" enough to believe that you HAPPEN to believe in the one religion- out of THOUSANDS- that is correct.
To the asker: People don't get offended when you simply talk about religion.
Christians get offended when an opposing point of view is presented to them.
Others get offended when we are called things like arrogant and ignorant for not being Christians.

because on the whole, religious people are brainwashed to think that what they've been taught is the ONLY way. They are unable to listen and agree with differing points of view, they are dangerously blindfolded to anything other than their master - religion.
People would like religious people more if they were a bit more human, you know, they could admit to making mistakes or didnt judge everyone. Religious people are NOT forgiving, happy people, they are angry and intolerant of everyone else.

Many want to believe that they are right about the "truth". But is the "truth"? I mean, I see all of these different religions that are all looking for the same thing but they are divided only because of "minute" details.

people don't always want to hear another opinion even when it seems they are asking for one.
as long as the discussion is kept civil most people don't get defensive or offensive.
it's when someone tries to tell others that what they wholeheartedly believe is wrong that things tend to get ugly.

Because they believe that whatever their faith is is the only way and everyone else is reading the wrong version of the same book. Very sad. Why can't people just believe what they want and keep it to themselves.

Well how do you talk to them about it? If you aren't respectful of course they will get offensive, but some people are just really sensitive about religion.
