I don't think they lied, they just weren't forthcoming about the details of his death. As a parent I would rather think my daughter or son died fighting off enemy combatants, than our own troops.----Do you seriously think if a Democrat was in the White House they would have been more willing to say what happened. This didn't come down directly from the President......

No family wants to hear that their son, brother, or dad died at the hands of his own comrades, such is the case of the Pat Tillman friendly fire incident.

His reason for living is often clouded by his seemingly useless way of dying. He was not a hero having died this way. His mission was cut short by someone who perhaps shot before identifying his target. Mistakes were made, and Pat Tillman paid the supreme sacrifice. Yet, because of the way he died, he will not be the hero he wanted to be.

I have great empathy for the officers who covered up this incident. They simply wanted to protect the Tillman legacy and the Tillman family from knowing their son didn't die fighting the good fight. This incident has the potential of too many victims besides Pat Tillman, and even one more than Pat is too many !

the better military in all likelihood believed the unique tale. at the same time as actual info confirmed that someone tried to revive him lengthy after he became useless, the military were given suspicious. keep in mind Tilliman became interior the rangers which meant he became assume to be in an elite stress yet the military discovered about a dozen complication-free military blunders consisting of splitting the unit up without the potential to talk with one yet another, no longer good figuring out the objective (human beings from that unit did an same ingredient again some days later) and that i believe the project began off with a disobeyed order or 2.

Truthfully , I think they lied because well how does this epitath sound:

Patrick Tillman:

Incredible Athlete, Loyal American , Killed by own unit's gross incompetence.

I hear ya on keeping it real, However morally speaking the above headline , not exactly uplifting stuff for a grunt in the field. As well as those who respected him seeing it as a pointless death, let's keep in mind Tillman went after the REAL bad guy in afghanistan not the "WMD" B.S. in Iraq.

Just a thought...

its very, very unfortunate. i don't have the magic answer on what should or shouldn't happen to the people trying to cover it up...but at the least...a heart felt apolgy from the dept of the army would be a start...why is it that someone from the bottom of the chain can interpret the right thing to do but the higher ups who we are supposed to look for guidance from can't? its very crappy situation...but pat tillman was a hero to me long before he got caught in the crossfire...

This is just part of a misguided, lying administration we now have in Washington. I think we need an election NOW before Bush and the rest of his cohorts gives America away to the highest bidder!

One of many false statements associated with the occupation of Iraq. Been a long four years with no end in sight, and unfortunately truth has been as much a victim as have been the Iraqi's and Americans who have been killed or injured.

Sad, but so are the stories of the other 3000+ men and women killed in this war. Just nobody will ever him them except those who knew them.

The military doesn't have to explain how you were killed, they just have to say you were.

Could really care less after all the bitching and moaning his family's done. Nothing's going to satisfy them. But they are not special -- and neither was Pat Tillman, any more so than any other soldier. I find it hard to believe his brother was even in the Rangers after all the things he's said about them. What an a--hole.

There was quite a bit of attention given to him when he sacrificed his football career to join the military and when he was killed, perhaps they thought it honored him more to be remembered as having been killed in combat by the enemy.
