Despite my efforts to achieve and better my life i seem to be failing. I pray and ask God for help but he doesnt seem to listen. Others around me seem to be moving forward while i seem to be held in place. What am i doing wrong? Because of the things that happened in my life i always thought of myself as watched over but i am not so sure now. Perhaps i am being played with by the devil...I have been living my life in the almost category for years. Almost win, Almost get the pramotion, everything seems to be just outside my grasp and God wont seem to help me get to the next level. What do you think Devil or God whos pulling my strings? Perhaps it is just old fashioned bad luck?

Hm, well, they say that God helps those who help themselves, sounds like you could do with a bit of assertivness training...maybe a little more discipline.... Could it be you are praying for the wrong things, or praying for the right things from the wrong angle, or don't know the right way to hear the answer when it comes???
For example: are you praying for the promotion, but don't know the job well enough? How are you relating to your co-workers, should you be praying for the ability to communicate with them better, or the right way to show leadership skills? Is it possible you are in the wrong job, and need to pray for your talents to be better revealed to you, and jobs that your strengths would be better applied to?
There's nothing wrong with praying to lose 50 lbs, and applying it by asking for the discipline to turn down a cupcake and eat a salad instead, or asking for the energy to go outside for a walk....God can help you in alot of ways, but you have to meet him/her halfway....

would you pray if you were 50 lbs. overweight to miraculously lose weight? or would you get up off the couch, start eating right, and start exercising? you control your own life. you're the reason things good and bad happen to you. accept responsibility for your life, analyze what's wrong with your life and change that. then you'll see an improvement.

we don't serve a God of luck.... I know what it is like to be in the 'almost' side of life... but I know now that I would rather receive my rewards in heaven anyday than receive them here on earth.... I may have to struggle a bit more than some to achieve what my goal is.... but I have the Joy of the Lord in my heart no matter what the outcome of my own strivings are. God may be helping you to perservere.... strive for a higher achievement... but sometimes, those who are not of God are the ones who get their rewards on earth... and we watch and wonder why. I do know that in time.. your rewards will be great if you keep your faith focused on the Lord! hang in there!

You are praying for the wrong things.
While there is nothing wrong with praying for a promotion, maybe try to pray for a better understanding of what God wants you to do with your life, and take time to listen.
Most of my greatest successes resulted from what I thought was a failure at the time. God used these "failures" to get me out of a rut and back to doing what I am called to do.
Pray for strength, understanding, and wisdom.....

Every prayer you have ever offered to God is heard. He is good and kind and listens to the troubles of your heart.
Without knowing much about your life I can't answer your questions. There could be any number of reasons why you feel you can't "get ahead" but I can almost bet that all of this is related to some spiritual problem. Why?
Because we are spiritual beings and when things go wrong there, it affects everything.

God is fair.
He loves sinners and believers. He blesses sinners, he blesses believers but you reap what you sow.
There is no such thing as luck, there's only God's will.
As Benjamin Franklin said "God only helps those who help themselves" If you want to better your life maybe you need to surround yourself with better people.
Community, strong and healthy community is very important to everyone.
