My sons fever seems to be going up within a couple of hours of giving him medicine whether it be tylenol or ibuprofen.

Give him a cool bath. Or wipe him down with cool rags.
Alternate the Tylenol and Ibu. so if you give him motrin at 6 PM give him tylenol at the four hour mark.
Repeat ibu. every 6 hours.. this should help keep it down.
Tylenol on the 4 hour mark.
Make sure the baby is drinking.
Has wet diapers
and tears. If not call NOW.
If drinking and has the above- call your MD after 36-48 hours. Just to ease your worries.

Don't let it go above 103 degrees without calling a doctor. You didn't say how old your baby was so perhaps you should call the doctor anyway, especially since the temp. keeps going up. Give him a cool bottle of water. Make sure you don't have him overdressed. Dress him in as little as possible but make sure he won't get chilled.

based on my daughter's record book, everytime she had fever she had to take paracetamol every 4 hours... dosage depends on the baby's age... 0.75ml when she was 3 months old, 1.0ml at 1 yo, 1.5ml at age 2yo... as adviced by my daughter's pediatrician, once fever reaches 40C or has reached 3 days already (even fever is below 40C) the baby should be brought to the doctor's clinic for check-up... Put wet towel/cloth on your son's forehead and wipe his whole body several times a day with wet towel/cloth... Use COLD not warm water :)

Treat fever only a 2 to 4 hours. If not successful, call doctor or take him to E.R.

Anything lasting more than half a day and you should see the doctor.
Infants do sometimes seem to get very ill quickly and before you know it they are well again. Dont take chances though, see the doc if it lasts too long.

use children's tylenol, ibuprofen won't do a thing for the fever. and call 1-800-ask-a-nurse

Infants always need to be taken to the ER or a doctor when they run a temp.
