well Roberta guess its the royal mile then, would never of guessed, i guess you knew already just trying us welsh folk out just because we have the longest village name eh.
but why do you say approximately, is there a catch in this question like there are no yards now (metres) or does it go by the size of your back yard or front for that matter, or is it the thickness of the yard stick you used 1/4" to each yard added on, so many on your first question have fun thats what its about,

A Scottish mile
A Scottish mile was the same length as the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, i.e. from the castle down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. English miles were imposed in 1824 by an act of parliament.

Equivalent to -

Scottish measures
320 falls, 8 furlongs (Scots)
Metric system
1807.3116 metres, 1.8 km
Imperial system
1976.5 yards, 1.1 miles
Robert Burns spoke of Scottish miles in the first verse of Tam O' Shanter

"While we sit bousing at the nappy,
An' getting fou and unco happy,
We think na on the lang Scots miles,
The mosses, waters, slaps and stiles,
That lie between us and our hame,
Where sits our sulky, sullen dame,
Gathering her brows like gathering storm,
Nursing her wrath to keep it warm."
Rose Street in Edinburgh, nicknamed the "Amber Mile" is somewhat misnamed, not being close to either a Scottish or English mile in length.
