No, there are many who think so. I agree that there are too many people taking antidepressants, and that they should instead be trying to solve the issues that cause their depression HOWEVER... there are people who really need antidepressants. Their depression is caused by something that's messed up in their bodies or brains and cannot be helped by therapy or working through any issues.
Just because there are hypochondriacs in this world, doesn't mean everyone is faking a medical ailment. We still need to give the benefit of the doubt just in case the person really needs help, and it is dangerous to downplay the seriousness of a potenially deadly disorder.
Also, I've taken antidepressants, and I want to clear up a common misconception: Antidepressants are not like narcotics, they don't give you a sense of glee or a high or a super happy feeling. In fact it's hard to tell if they are even working at first, you gradually notice after two weeks that you have you're old patience and energy levels back, and that you are having both good and bad days like you used to instead everyday being lived in despair. In my opoinion, the bad thing about taking an antidepressant if you don't need it is that you are only procrastinating getting the help that will actually heal you. Zoloft won't give you a better self-esteem.

Nope, not at all- and I've been down the road of depression.

I think doctors are too quick do diagnose medications for emotional problems, anyway. There are a good deal of people out there who genuinely do have imbalences that can be "fixed" by pills, but what about those who have deep problems without the imbalence?

I totally agree, it is becoming an epidemic and it is not safe. How ridiculous that they diagnose antidepressants for chronic cough, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, ANYTHING! It is ridiculous, I am pretty sure just about every person I work with is on them, I refuse, why I don't need them, if you are sad change your life. Not too mention the suicide side effect! HELLO, why take something your body make not like and take that chance!

being depressed is a disease. No one can prevent that from happening.
Do doctors prescribe this medication to unnecessary people that don't fit the requirements for depression, yes I think so
