I have a fairly new flat iron (1.5 width) that has the gold plated ceramic hot pieces (for total lack of a better phrased description). Apparently I should have wiped it down after every use but I didn't so the plates are dirty and are not working as best they could. How can I clean the plates properly and effectively? I've tried rubbing alcohol and plain soap and water. none seem to work. i wanna clean it properly ASAP to avoid further build up and total product replacement. Hairdressers use these things all the time ...anyone know? No cleaning instructions were provided w/the product.

i have a friend who runs a fantastic sams.. she told me to clean curling iron with hair spray....while the iron is hot spray a little on and wipe off with a terry cloth or an old towel careful not to burn yourself.... that might work for yours.. maybe try a q tip? spray the q tip and rub in the creases
