I don't really know of much dirt on Joseph Smith. I know Mormons don't think he was perfect, by any means, but there isn't really anything earth shaking that would dissuade someone from being Mormon. I don't know quite as much about Ron Hubbard, but he himself wasn't necessarily a bad man either. God works in mysterious ways. I'm betting people thought Noah was a wack job, Moses was washed up and behind the times, etc. There were definitely people that thought Christ was the anti-messiah and a fraud. So, I guess it boils down ot the idea that we are all free to believe or disbelieve as we choose, but because religion is faith based all we can do is respect those who believe differently than we do and live in peace.

It has been a short time and much of it is "forgotten" already. There are people who keep both ends alive, both the evolved message and the awful truths in order to counter the message. You would think that most of these religions would just drop off the face of planet earth when they are exposed, but I believe that the "evolution" of religion will become religions that are not based on truth, but rather on what people will want to here. The new religions will become supermarkets to the blowing winds of change, whatever appeals to the general public. They will be good, bad, ugly, or whatever, but one thing is certain, they will be all be worthless.
The truth will still be out there, alone and forgotten, betrayed, abused, neglected, and/or abandoned. Some religions will try to hang onto it, but at the peril of their very lives.

No, I think with the internet in place and the growing world population from now on nobody has any real dirty secrets any more. The only problem will be the signal/noise ratio. A successful countermeasure on the internet might be to spread so many lies on so many sites that nobody knows what to believe any more. This runs contrary to the intuition of most people with dirty secrets to hide ;)

look at christianity for an example of details forgotten, reworded and glorified centuries later. Yep, years from now, they would be the prophets who were perfect.
By the way, anyone see that episode of simpson where bart centuries later was seen as a prophet of peace and had millions of followers. Very hilarious and very true of the process of religion formation. I love that show

Only if these churches fail. If they stay around so will the dirt.
How much dirt do people have on unsuccessful religious leaders? It is just not worth it, even though I am sure that we could find similar information about anyone we wanted.

Yes, there is already no doubt in my mind that L. Ron Hubbard is omnipotent and omnipresent supreme being.
