Why are you asking this question if you'll only listen to answers you want to hear? You've already stated you're not going to professional. So why should I waste my time with answering. Go ahead and have your friend do it and when it get infected and your cartalige (wherever it's located) rots off you can always say you did it your way.

Don't do it if you are not going to go to a professional. No offense to your friend but she probably hasn't served an apprenticeship with a piercer and therefore doesn't know about the anatomy/hygiene/healing issues involved in giving a piercing. There are a lot of risks involved in piercing that professionals know about and take into account.

Maybe your friend can go with you to get a piercing too?
Why don't you want to go to a professional?

well if it's anything like when you get your ear pierced you should get rubbing acohol to keep it clean. Much like an ear piercing keep it clean and make sure the needle you use is sternale. If you use a normal needle, boil it in water to clean it and use gloves to do the piercing. Make sure the earring you put into the piercing is also clean. Let it soak acohol for a while and then put it in with gloves.

Don't let your friend pierce you without taking these steps. Make sure you have gloves and make sure she uses them. There's no way you can prevent an infection for sure but doing things this way might help.

Honey I do not think I know were you are talking about.
Cartilage is found in many places in the body including the joints, the rib cage, the ear, the nose, the bronchial tubes and between intervertebral discs.
So were are you thinking of having a piercing. Anything you do make sure it is clean and sterile.

Your telling us how we should or shouldn't answer, so why are you even asking. Just because you've known her since she was 3 and she's going to beauty school doesn't mean she knows what she's doing or else you wouldn't be asking how it's done! Don't be such an idiot, go to a professional.

Not a good idea. You're taking a chance of catching an infection, hepatitis B, and if your friend's bodily fluids was infected you're taking that chance of getting infected or getting infected bodily fluids in you're system. Please do the right thing and get the piercing done professionally.

I pierced my cartilage, and ears and nose by myself with none of them getting infected. I didn't really do anything special. It doesn't hurt too much, just don't forfeit because of the pain because it's really nothing. Just make sure the needle or whatever you use is sterilized of course..

I say go ahead and do it then when you get a raging infection you can come back on Yahoo answers and ask for the name of a good doctor to have your body part amputated.
