My daughter is signing up for Golf this summer. My daughter is 12 and is 4'8" tall. I know NOTHING about golf and I have no idea how club sizes work or anything.

Please help so I can purchase the right clubs.

First of all, you pointed out that your daughter is "signing up" for golf. I wouldn't drop a lot of money on a complete set 3-PW Irons and woods until she gets into the sport a little more. DON'T buy adult clubs and cut them down. The will be even stiffer than normal and impossible for a 12-year old to hit. Get a junior set (9 iron, 7 iron, 5 iron, 3 iron, Driver, 3 wood, putter) with flexible shafts that allow her to swing the club. Check your local golf shop, or even used store for a good deal. Good luck!

if your daughter is not too interested in golf but wants to try it, you can buy some Junior clubs from wall-mart. you can buy those (there cheap...but works good) and if she decided to really get into it, you should go to a golf shop, (probably at the golf range) and have them customized to fit her size. The people there will know what to do.

The easiest way to learn golf like a pro is by following "The Simple Golf Swing" program. It's primarily a 31 page eBook that teaches golfers how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting fat, how to avoid slicing, how get more power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. Consistency being the number 1 golf skill.

You not only get the eBook though, you also receive a ton of extra material including video, lessons on putting, driving, chipping, sand play etc. Here is their official site: http://www.golfswingguru.net

Walter Hagen Varsity Combo set. PERFECT FOR ME! i'm a little taller than her so maybe a jr3 set? but then again girls mature faster and the the varsity combo is a lot better deal. 200 bucks at *****. Go to a worker at ***** and ask him if she should get a jr3 or varsity set. the workers there are so helpful. varsity set has 5-9 irons 3 and 4 hybrid for replacing long hard to hit irons, 3 and 5 wood, really big driver and wedge and putter.

Well, when I was younger I used to caddy for my dad when he played golf...it was our bonding thing. I caddied for him, he fished with my little brother.

But I really got into it, so he took and old set of his and had a proffessional cut them down to fit my height. I grew out of them eventually. (I'm 5'10") I never reallly stuck to golf, so I see why he did this. It was an affordable way to get me my own clubs without having to spend a lot of dough on something I would grow out of quickly.

I suggest you ask around at your local golf club, golf sporting goods store, or maybe check out a second hand sports shop.

If you have alot of money, you could buy her new ones and have her measured and fitted for her own. It is hard to find perfect clubs for a women, esp. one who is short. And believe me, it does make a difference in her game (her abilitay to perform to the best of her potential.) Also you may consider this option if you have the money and she is already in high school, like 11th or 12th grade and she doesn't have much room to grow.

Never underestimate golf. My dad joined the high school golf team for the wrong reasons. He was a big football player, and in the off season football players were forced to run track, unless they were involved in another serious sport. Well, he hated track. He joined, to get out of track, having never played before, and they ended up winning state. He went to college on a golf scholarship.

Keep in mind that with gold clubs, you need a golf bag to carry them in. This can be very expensive when you buy them new. Or very cheap if you check out a second hand store as suggested above.

Good luck and I hope this helps. What a cool mom to even be considering getting her her own clubs! Way to be supportive! This should really encourage her.
