I wouldn't give anything tacky, like crotchless panties of course. But what about a cute cami and short set, or a silky nightgown?

silky nightgown or robe would be nice. a good way to know if it's appropriate would be if she would be comfortable wearing it in front of house guests. you can find a sexy silky cami or robe to wear over something even sexier (that you would not buy of course.)

It depends on the group of people, I suppose. I find that most Bridal Showers are more tame - gifts that are for the bride and groom, or very tame.

The bachelorette party is a great place for lingerie and romantic gifts.

My rule is - if the bride's mother is going to be at the shower, then give something nice.

Sure! Especially if there is no 'theme' for the shower. The cami and short set would be really nice, she could use them as pajamas or just as lounge wear.

I have a real conservative Christian family and I was surprised to get tons of lingerie, lube, massage oils from alot of my seemingly uber-religious relatives. For a bridal shower, it's totally appropriate. It's pretty much expected (and appreciated :), but I never would've expected it from them. My friend who's catholic also got tons of naughty swag from her conservative friends & relatives, so personally I'd say it's safe to give lingerie at a bridal shower.

No. This is something she ought to pick out for herself. She knows her/his tastes far better than you. Stick to something a little safer.
