There are contacts designed for overnight wear. Even though I live with an optomitrist (eye doctor), I still don't know what contact brands those are, though, I'm sorry. But the main reason that you should not wear your contacts overnight is because your eyes breathe. They are the only thing in your body that gets its own air. When you breathe, that air is carried and distributed through your body. Your eyes, though, get their own air because that distribution does not reach where they are. When you wear contacts, it creates a barrier that makes it harder for your eyes to get air. Now, those contacts designed for overnight wear are made thin enough that it helps your eyes breathe easier. When your eyes are closed, they have to breathe through your lid. So when you wear contacts, it's like your lids are always closed as far as your eyes are concerned. If your contacts aren't designed for long-time wear, your eyes might get oxygen starved. Burning, itching and dryness are symtoms of that. If you feel any of that, you really need to take out your contacts. Over wearing is bad. If your eyes don't get enough oxygen, your corneas swell and blood vessels flow in, making you look like you've kept your eyes open in pool water for several days, and can result in damage such as getting scratches in your eyes and worse. You should take your contacts out every once in a while, really. Oh, and what killemal or whoever else replied who had an ex-girlfriend optomitrist, your contacts can go in the back of your eyes, the part you can't see in the mirror and it can get stuck. If that ever happens, you can just put in moisture drops and roll your eyes around to 'edge' the contact into a place where you can reach it and take it out. It's not like it's stuck there for life and you need to pay your retirement fund for surgery to get it out.

Your Eyes Will Irritate All Day Next Day
plus While You Sleep Your Eye Movement Sometimes Turns Inward And This Could Cause (WORST CASE SCENARIO ) the contact to go in the back of your eyeball and stay there
my ex girlfriend was an optomitrist and she seen it happen

Sometimes when wearing them to sleep they can fold up and get caught in your eye where you have to go to a DR to get it out. Also wearing them to bed doesn't allow your eyes to breathe. Even though your eyes are closed while sleeping they still need to breathe. Plus taking them out and cleaning them every day with solution will prevent any infections and such in your eye. It's better to avoid a problem then wait for a problem to happen and then change your behavior.

I have heard from others that wear contacts all the time and they have no problems at all. It is always good to take them out so you can clean them. They can get dirty from like dust and such in the air. But if you have a major concern talk to and eye doctor and see what they say.

Yes it is bad. An infection could cause overnight. Or even worst the contact could roll to the back of your eye and you could prosibly need surgery to remove it.

yes its bad. you will cause your eyes to receive small scratches from the lenses. this will then lead to infection. You should go and get your eyes tested asap to make sure you have not sustained any damage already.
I slept with mine once and the optician saw a tiny scratch on the whites of my eyes, I had to re-frame from wearing my contacts for a while until my eye healed its self.

Yes it is bad you are not letting your eyes breath... And deposits will start to form and that can make you go blind and you can also lose one of the contacts in the back of your eye cuz when u sleep your eyes roll back... Trust me I have seen friends, and myself suffer from some of these reactions...

Ask your opthomologist. It's not good for your eyes if they're not the kind you can wear for long periods of time. It can also make your vision worse.
