First, you must apply into the school. Second, you have to get a service letter of recommendation from your Senator or Congressman/woman. Third, you have to take the ACT or SAT; you must score atleast a total of 42 in Math and English to join the Marine option. You must score atleast a total of 45 in Math and English to join the Navy option. Many people apply but only 1200 get accepted. Grades matter, but many things must be taken into consideration too i.e. extra-curricular activities and sctivites you did when you were in high school.

If your intentions are to be a General or Admiral consider the USNA but if you are just considering to be a Company or Field Grade officer, go to a 4 year college/university and do ROTC.

It's not quite that simple. Usually you have to have a recommendation in politics, like your congressman, senator, or someone else with political influence. You need to write a letter to these individuals so that you can be considered.

It probably helps if you send along your grades and any information pertaining to the Navy or Marines that you have. Family history with these organizations certainly helps. Certain combat history is always welcome along with medals received, battles fought, and personal reasons why you wish to join the academy !
