A scrapbook. My grandmother has children and grandchildren scattered across the globe, and many of them are unable to celebrate with her, so I got in contact with everyone to send me pictures and a birthday message via email. I went to a craft shop, got myself some scrapbooking supplies, and I went to work on it. With the posting of pictures and writing in messages and adding little artistic designs, it took me a weekend to get it done, but it was great, and my grandmother loves it! Now, not a day goes by that my grandmother does not look through it.

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would and family know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

Your presence, if you can be there for her.

A good present for her, and you, and all the family that comes after you: get a tape recorder and start recording an oral history of your grandmother. She's lived through the Great Depression, the Second World War, the space program, all kinds of things, all kind of memories, all of which will die with her if you don't preserve them. Get her to talk into a tape recorder and get that information down, to be passed along. Ask her questions, get her to tell you things, get the information she has recorded.

You can get it transcribed by someone and then make it into a book of memories for family members.

I can't think of a better gift for everyone.

Most grandmas love pictures. I bought my grandmother a wooden lap tray so she could write or eat in her chair that has a glass top and a place for 4 pictures. It was her prized possession before she passed away.

depends, my grandmother is still very young at 83. I think a good gift is one of those cellphones for senor citizens. It has big buttons and they can push one button and talk to a real person that has all their contacts on a file and can connect them.

My grandmother loves pictures! Maybe a collage of your family members throughout the years? It's a lot of work, but if she's really into that sort of thing, she'll appreciate it!
