We knew each other a year, and dated for two before getting married, over 17 years ago. The reason: well, for the first year, I was still dating someone else! If you're after the reason for the two years of dating -- one needs at LEAST 18 months to get to know the person properly, and for the families to get to know each other. Makes a big difference to put the time in!

We knew each other for about a year when we started dating, 2 months later we learned we were expecting a baby, got engaged after 10 months of dating, and married 6 months after getting engaged. It wasn't the story of my life that I had wanted, but I love things the way they are now. I have an amazing husband who I love very much and a beautiful son.

my bf and i have been dating for 3 yrs. and 7 months since August 10, 2003... we plan on getting engaged by summer time and married on May 21, 2010. So almost 7 years. Reasons - we're still young... I'm 19 he's 21. We have all the time in the world and see no reason to rush as we know we want to be together.

We were married 14 months after we started dating and we got engaged after the first 7 months. The only reason we waited so long for the wedding was because I was 18 when I got engaged and he was 19.

Moved in together after 3 months, got engaged a year later, married 4 months after that. No particular reason, just the way it worked out for us.

My boyfriend and I aren't married or even engaged yet, but we are planning on getting married in roughly two years. Currently we've been dating for a year and a half. We're not engaged now because of religious reasons on my own side.
We're also waiting because we are both in undergrad at the moment. I graduate next year, and he graduates in two. While he finished his senior year, I will be earning my masters in a one-year program. I'll come back, we'll get married, and head off to wherever he'll be working on his doctorate while I work.

Well, we're not married yet, but we are engaged and we've set our wedding date.
We started dating in July of '05. By November of '05 we both knew we'd get married, but he wanted to wait at least a year and a half after starting to date before getting engaged. He was very stubborn about this--he had his reasonings. At first, it upset me. I wanted to wait a year, and that's it, but it really didn't matter in the long run. Plus, I highly recommend waiting at least a year because for the first 6 months you're both still on good behavior. At some point, the politeness goes away, the nice gloves come off and you start acting like your true, true self--no holds barred. If you still love each other after the reality of who one another is, then it's okay to get engaged!
We got engaged about 2 weeks before our 1 1/2 year "anniversary." We are getting married in June of '08 (the end of June and we started dating at the beginning of July), so it will be almost 3 years that we're together before we get married.

My husband and I got married after being together for just over eight years. The reason we waited so long was, to begin with, we were 17 and 21 when we started dating. We decided that it was best to wait until I was done with school before we got married. I went to college for six years getting my MBA. We moved in together after I finished undergrad school after being together for four years.
Once I was done with my education, we decided to wait another year before getting engaged because we were in the process of putting up a new house. Our first Christmas in our new house my husband proposed. We've been married for five months now.
