I am now a Humanist and believe that there's no Hell. I do not call myself a Christian anymore because there's no REAL historical evidence for even that Jesus existed at all, much less that He was who he claimed he was.

I studied for years, Josh McDowell, Apologetics, I loved Jesus and the Holy Spirit, Norman Geisler and C.S. Lewis, etc, etc...

But now, after doing some serious research, I had to stop believeing - Come to find out that I'd have just as much logical and reasonable reason to believe in Zeus!

So, I have de-personalized God, as I'm sure most of you will do also, when the information comes flooding the airwaves.... I must say to you Christians who will have to stop believing because of this kind of enlightenment to consider unitariannism, universalism or Humanism.

That way, you can still even call yourself a Christian and/or can retain a good moral code (although atheism has developed a fantastic moral code based completely on reason!)

I think God must understand.

Sure. He will understand as Jesus casts you into hell. Just before you hit the flame maybe He will ask you if you now believe in hell.

Based on your reasoning there is no God, for there is far less real historical evidence for the existence of God than there is for a historical Jesus. Amazing, isn't it, that so many billions of people throughout history have spent so much time looking for a historical Jesus, and you have discovered all on your own that he did not exist.

And, if I continue to follow your logic, then there is no god. If there is no god, who cares about a moral code? Survival of the fittest sounds like the only thing that matters. Or for that matter, why doesn't everyone just commit suicide, since there is no reason for anyone to live in this world, suffer through the various sicknesses we face, when there is no right or wrong, good or bad, because there is no historical evidence that there is a god of any kind.

So, in the end, eat drink and be merry because tomorrow you will die, and that is it.

Now my turn - Why do you care what God thinks about what you believe, since you have already discounted his existence? I do not understand why an atheist cares about a moral code. Universalism and Unitarianism and humanism are basically the same - a deistic view that says God left us to fend on our own, if there is a god. So why would such a god even bother to prepare a heaven?

In the end, either there is no god or no, he would not understand your denial. I think, down deep, you know that.

John,I don't where you studied Christianity and got such misunderstanding but there Is historical and archaeological proof that Jesus Christ was judged and crucified by the Romans. It was led by the Sanhedrin because they were afraid of him.The Sanhedrin later became the Roman Catholic church. If you will go to a seminary that allows people to check out books(not just the bible) and study you will find that the church beheaded the 1st two men that tried to have the bible interpreted and put into print. They did not want people to know the truth because they were changing things(like the Sabbath)that is really Sat sundown to Sun. sunup.I don't understand it all -Like why Christians still have church on Sunday when the ten commandments say to honour the Sabbath-or why people talk one way and act another-and they all do it -no matter what "religion" they claim to be. I don't believe in any religion because I believe God created "relationship" and if we do unto others as we want to be treated we'd treat each other with respect and dignity. Seek your heart - and your creator-He loves you just like you are-keep His commandments. I have unfortunately seen the gospel preached for the love of money and preachers get rich while the flock loses all. What a shame and I believe an outrage in Gods eyes.Bless you my brother.

I believe you didn't really believe; else you would not have turned away. If you really believe you can't deny its true except by lying to yourself, since there would be a conviction in your heart it is true. Maybe you were just brought up in a church, and assumed you were a christian because your parents were, or through 'church membership'.

You say you were interested in the Holy Spirit, but I doubt anyone experiencing the Holy Spirit's loving presence could ever really think christian faith was an illusion. You won't find better love anywhere.

If you were really a christian, and left, it might be because of being fooled by Satan, i.e. some worldly behaviour looks appealing to your mind and emotions, such as having multiple sexual partners or making loads of money through dubious business practices. Tempting things like that can motivate people to convince themselves that Christ's salvation isn't real.
Or they can just get diverted with the things of the world, and suffer like the withered branch of John 15, which loses its life when the believer fails to abide in Christ.

I hope you find your faith again (if it existed, sounds like it didn't) - aren't you worried about your situation?

Man, you've got to be the "Biggest Sucker On The Planet." Everybody tries a new "Label" to refute "God, Jesus, and the Bible." Some moron uses "Religious Behavior" to try to demoralize a Christian. Evolution can't even find their so-called "Missing Link." Why? Because it doesn't exist. Plain and simple. And the notion of a "Man" evolving from a "Descendant of an Ape" is pure fiction that has been "Evolved" into the biggest "Lie" there is.( If you look in the Book, there were men born hairy and smooth. Don't believe me? LOOK IT UP. Esau and Jacob is a GREAT example.) And 1) A moral code based on reason still evolves from the Bible. 2) It is REALLY CALLED COMMON SENSE, which, AGAIN, can be linked to the bible.

There is no unpardonable sin...thats a myth of Christianity. God is God he can pardon anything. Christianity has a lot of myths to scare people. Christians like to scare. Their Bible is full of scare tactics to get you to join their religion. God Weighs the heart. He knows your intentions. He also is not going to give upon you. I am no longer a Christian myself. After 20 years of watching the things that Christians do to each other and to others I walked away from it. I used to be a pastor as well. I figured my love for God and my sanity was more important than any religion. Follow your heart for thats where you will find God not in their church. Jesus said that people will know who you are by your actions. Do what you believe is right and do not worry about the rest of the world. The world will take care of its self. If you believe God will understand than God will God will understand. What a man believes in his heart so is he. Your faith will carry you through. Don't let anyone take that away from you.

In my opinion God has two faces. One is universal consciousness, englightenment which is beyond words. The other is the personal face. Really, God is One but this is how we can interract with that one. I think that Christs message goes along with this. When he talks about The Kingdom, he is talking about universal consciousness. When he talks about The Father, he is talking about the personal aspect.
However, I am not a christian for the same reasons this questioner mentioned. I take wisdom from the Christian Tradition and from other traditions and come up with my own spiritual life.

I'm quite sure that God will understand why you chose to call Him a liar by denying His existence, crucified Christ on a cross of your humanistic beliefs, and shamed Him before others.

Yeah, right.

That's not enlightenment. . .that's Satanic delusion at its finest. And here is what the Bible has to say about people who once knew God and walked away from Him:

Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

God no doubt understands. . .but don't mistake His understanding for acceptance or approval.

Good luck on THAT one, my friend.
Lessee......

Despite His Word you don't believe there's a hell.
Despite His Word you say you don't believe His son even exists...much less paid a price you could not.

But yet you believe you will stand in judgment by Him. ( ?? )
You may not get a chance to plead your case. This judgment you refer to is only for Christians and does not determine salvation.

Unbelievers are already condemned at the Great White Throne judgment.

Sounds like you still believe in God.

If you do, then you will believe what He has revealed to you in Scripture and tradition.

That was a fastest conversion I have ever seen! I just read your previous post about psychology and you barely read the answers before you ditched Truth.

May God have mercy on you and bring you back to Him in the FULLNESS of Truth.
