i really hate the way my smile is with braces, it makes my teeth look dark and yucky. i was wondering if there was any way i could possibly whiten my teeth with this horrible device in my mouth.

I was an office manager at an Orthodontist office for 3yrs. And during that time we had a few patients and patients parents the wanted to do the same. The doctor had to highly discouraged whitening until the braces came off. We would suggest get your teeth cleaned. That helps some. He also suggested that patients maintain good brushing habits because of the foods people would eat.

All of the tooth's surface is open except for where the bracket is. Even the smallest of brackets still cover some of the tooth's surface.

When patience don't brush well or eat foods with heavy color(blueberries, dark colas) there teeth would get darker and when they did get them off they had a white spot of where the bracket was.

After patients got there braces off they would get a cleaning and that would help. But then for worst cases they would go and get there teeth whitened.

And like a previous writer wrote the paste that is used gets stuck and the continues contact will cause more damage than help.

Thats really not a good idea because you will have little circles where the braces were when they come off. Just use a whitening toothpaste but dont go to the extreme of getting crest white strips or anything...that will just ruin the way your teeth look when you get your braces off. If I were you I would wait until the braces do come off then worry about whitening.

There's not much you can do. When I had braces I brushed my teeth with a whitening toothpaste. It worked to a point.

i wouldn't do it. it will only make your teeth blotchy when you get them off. the whiteing agent will not affect the areas of teeth covered by cement. just be patient and your smile will be gorgeous.
