You have the intent on hurting them. And you made a physical action towards hurting them but didnt do the actual hit. You made a negative movement does that count? and talking about people behind their back if they never figure out is it bad karma? So basically a summary of my question would be what you dont know wont hurt you could that kind of be applied to karma?

It is bad karma simply to think of hurting someone. To attempt to do so in itself is worse, and success is a step beyond.

Even the thought of a bad action is in itself bad. To follow through is worse. This falls under the Buddhist eightfold path, right intent is important.

Karma relies strongly on intent. Case in point, a surgeon can use a knife to create a wound as can a serial killer. However, the intent behind creating the wound is different for both people, thus they would incur different karma.

Each person who causes intentional harm should examine their own conscience and decide their own answer to that.

Mind, intent, action and all, plant karmic seeds. You know what you did and did not do, you know your intent and how you felt, only YOU can determine what the result will likely eventually be... unless someone has a glass ball, or is a Buddha, and can see all your actions nobody can say what you're up to.

Buddy, what goes around comes around.
Instant karma is a surprise and payback is always at least double.
Jesus says throw your bread upon the waters and it will return to you ten fold.
The bible also says that ye shall reap what ye sow.
Keep that in mind.

Good actions are golden chains,
bad actions are iron shackles,
they both hold one to the wheel of the awagowaon
the circle of life
everything produces Karma
