Our pet cat had a wound on his face several weeks ago. The vet said he'd been in a fight, cleaned the wound, put on an Elizabethan collar, and gave him antibiotics for a week. After a week, the wound had healed only slightly, so the cat had another two weeks of antibiotics and wearing the collar.

The wound is still there, but almost healed completely. BUT, he has two new places on him. Not wounds like his face, but simply hairless patches. One on the other side of his face and one on the back of his neck. He isn't scratching or acting like it itches at all, which is a question the vet asked a few weeks ago to disprove mange. What in the world could it be?

The cat did visit the vet. He isnt currently wearing the collar. And the two new patches arent red or inflamed at all. Theyre white, like just fur missing.

It could be anything from a weather induced allergy that really..the only thing that will help is some very light hydrocortisone which will just sooth it...it may or maynot let the hair grow back...to a smooth mange. The best thing to do is take the cat in to get a simple skin scraping to make sure it isnt parasitic or anything. Good luck with the cat!. Scratch his cute head for me.

Is he still wearing the collar? It could simply be rubbing the fur off. Are you SURE he's not scratching? He could be doing it when you're not looking. What's the skin like where the hair loss is occurring? Is it red or broken? Is it possible he got into another fight? You also said he'd been on medication; it could be a reaction to that. I'd take him back to the vet; hair loss can be caused by a lot of things, not just mange.

I know you said you had talked to your vet..but did you take your cat in? If not, I would do this and let the vet take a look to be sure there is no allergic reaction to the antibiotics or something new going on. Good Luck. Mine of course shed this time of year like everyone elses..Perhaps he's just "shedding" a bit more ...Just keep an eye on him and make sure it doesn't become inflamed...if your vet wasn't concerned then I would just keep an eye on him and try not to worry too much...hope all turns out ok for you and your pet.

My cat had a similar problem. He was young when he had it...like 1 or 2 years old. It was called cat acne and it was caused by allergies from the seasons changing. which they are doing now, so maybe thats it.
