You need a fishing license and a lobster stamp, you will also need a dip net , a tickle stick and a lobster gauge, you must have the gauge on your person while diving or you will get a big fine, see the attached web site for the correct way to measure a lobster. Lobster season in the Florida Keys, the season starts August 6th - March 31st

spiny lobster have no claws, but they are still delicious
Usually I will drive the boat and pull my husband and son on rope behind the boat, when they see a lobster hole, you can see the tenicles stick out of the hole, they will let go of the rope. Then I will goose the engine to alert the other person that someone has found a hole, he will let go of his rope. I will bring the ropes aboard the boat, so that the do not get tied up in the prop of the boat. Then I will circle the boat around the divers and drop the diver flag. You dive down with your net and tickle stick, you use the tickle stick to get the lobster to swim into the net. Check the regulations for your limit, it was 6 per day per person, just check to make sure. Happy Diving. If you would like to check out the night life in Key West, check out this web site. I just love the Florida Keys.

I don't know why all of these people are telling you to lobster dive at night, you can't see at night. We have always lobster dove in the day light hours, any time during the day. I would like to caution you about there mini season, it is very dangerious, there are so many people and boats that people are running over the divers and killing them, I just wait a couple of weeks until the regular season starts and the whackos go home. Don't forget to swim with the DOLPHINS

When I was staying in Gloucester, MA every morning lobstermen went by boat to drop their traps (they placed markers on the site to identify whose traps belonged to who)
Then late afternoon or early evening they would go back and pick up their catch. It was the best and freshest lobster I ever had (and the cheapest!). A typical lobster dinner cost about $10 and included a salad, corn and potato.
To answer your question about time of year I would say summer months are the best, but I am not an expert, just a lobster lover!

First of all, they're nocturnal, so go after them at night. In California, the season starts in early October and runs through the winter. You can "fish" for them with hoop nets dropped to the bottom with bait in the middle. After a while, haul up the net and see what you've got. (No, it's not exciting, but a lot of people do this, and it works.) The other alternative is to go out diving at night and grab the critters with your bare hands. (Pacific lobsters don't have big claws.)
The main thing is to know the season, have the proper license, and use the legal techniques -- all vary depending on where you are.

well I'm sorry that you're really not getting any clear answers. I hope you will believe this one :) at night is always best and even into early morning. It's best in summer, but that all depends on your area
i hope you will trust this. I have a professional lobster fishing license and I run a seafood business. I know all about this ebcause it's my line of work. I'm out on the water daily during the best season.
I hope you have good luck wih your lobsters! Hope I helped :)

don't know about where you live but where i come from, our fishing season is 20th of April to June 20th and you need a fishing licenses which cost 200.00 dollars and you fish 250 traps.theses are the lobsters you buy at your market. and if your buying them make sure the long feelers onto them are both there and that they are long,,because if they are short there is very little meat into them.if they are Nova Scotia lobsters they are sooooo very tasty. we go out fishing 5am.
