well if the highway is a even number it goes on and on but if it is a odd number it goes around the town. This actually is the real reason and my teacher told and It is amazingly true :-)

the interstate goes north to south if the last number is a odd
the interstate goes east to west if the last number is even
if its 3 numbers it goes around the higher the number in the front the wider you are going to avoid the a major city
