I do realize I used inductive reasoning for the question before and the purpose was to get real answers. I know many white people fought for people being oppressed just like all cultures have. I am not blaming whites at all because many white people died because they realized what was going on. John Brown, Robert Upham - ect...- the point is that Americans are trying to form a melting pot when we are asked to only accept your spices. Many of us do not like the way you Cook! Seems like you have forgot the way this country was formed and say "this country was founded on God" when it was not. It was formed on Greed and had nothing to do with God! Like I said - not all white people are to blame - but the philosophy that - you won the war - so deal with it and assimilate ----- is asking me to accept my people getting murdered, raped and stolen from like you have. Is that what you are asking us to do? Forget what happened to us and forget where we came from and accept your way

I'll tell you again, I wasn't around when all that happened, so I'm not responsible for it. My family are Northerner, wise guy. We had no slaves.

You have a chip on your shoulder for something that didn't even happen to you. You're reaping in the good life now (you have a computer, obviously. Probably a car, a good school, the hope for a good job, etc) from what happened in the past. My family (the German side anyway, the Irish and Italians immigrated later) fought for your freedom, so don't you dare place any of your preconcieved bigotry on me!

And don't you call my Irish side the "N" word. It's a dirty word!

My family has fought and died for this land, for your freedoms. That's right, a white family has shed their blood so you can be free! In every war that's happened since we immigrated here, we've proudly served so you can live the life you are accustomed to. So don't you ever, EVER suggest that my family is anything but upstanding after all we've done for you. You think about that as you sleep in your nice house, attend your nice school and drive your nice car. You think about that when you can get a good job and walk freely down the street and sit where you want to sit. My family bled for your rights!

Perhaps it's time to stop being the victim and asking people to take responsibility for something they never were involved in. Did bad things happen back then? Yes they did. Did everyone participate? No they did not. Demanding compensation or apologies from people who were never involved is living in a past that can not be corrected. The victim mentality keeps hate alive and keeps people from reaching their best because it's always someone else's fault. It also allows others to control you. Now is the time to ask if your going to prove all the false statements they used to justify bad actions by remaining a victim or prove them wrong by getting out of the victim mode and showing them who you really are.

It doesn't matter what white people think because God is the ultimate judge. There are times when it is appropriate to place blame and other times it isn't, but we certainly must realize that we are all individuals and should be held accountable for our own actions and not the actions of others. I realize there are instances where black people are having a more difficult time succeeding based on prior discrimination, and in those instances something should be done, but that shouldn't remove the responsibility of the individual. If there is ever going to be equality or the death of racism it will be by the hands and hard work of all people, especially the minority or black person. Every opportunity exists in this country for all people, if they are motivated and work hard (and it helps to have good parents).

God should be removed from this picture. God doesn't sanction racism and doesn't discriminate. No man should be held accountable for the sins or injustices of another, for God will judge all men based on their own actions. I am certainly not my father, as I'm certain you are not yours.

People should be proud of their heritage (or ashamed of parts of it) and should learn from it, but they should not dwell upon the negative if it keeps them down. We must all use injustice as motivation to bring a change and to succeed.

You may discredit my response because I am white, but I believe motivation and success is attained in the same manner for everyone. None of us should judge another based on the color of their skin, God certainly doesn't.

What has this to do with the Title of the question? I'm not white either but not all white people feel this way. be a optimist. There are bad and good people in all societies. Most of the people I know have nothin against african americans. And God will forgive anybody for any crime (except for the one that jesus says to the pharisees but that is not important). You don't have to accept their ways. But you overall have a very confusing question.

i'm mostly white, and atheist. i live & let live. the past cannot be changed, but people's attitudes today can. why hold a grudge against people who are dead & gone? what happened to you, specifically? hm? were you raped and stolen? if you haven't been, how's about you get down off your figurative cross, take care of that chip on your shoulder, and live your life the way you want, who's really stopping you in your actual life, and why are you letting them?
from someone who has actually been raped, i can tell you that the only thing to do is try to forget & move on with your life, not blame an entire group of people for what happened and live with anger that does nothing but eat your own insides up.

Did you fail history or are the textbooks that messed up now?

The most glaring error relates to European settlers finding blacks in North America to oppress. What planet did that come from?

Then we have this sentiment that claims that blacks in the US are owed something because several generations ago someone enslaved their ancestors. Why don't you take up your claims with the several 100,000's of Africans who have legally immigrated to the US in the last few years. (A quick search found about a quarter million WEST Africans over a 5 year period, not including the rest of the continent.)

... THOUSANDS of blacks come TO this country every year. Many more are denied entrance for various reasons... If things are so bad, WHY DO THEY WANT TO COME HERE?

you know what-the United States of America was founded with a God. if you are talking about the United States.and when you are a citizen of the United States, you become an American! So YOU do need to assimilate. OUR main language is English! So, thats what you should speak. Not to mention if your talking about slaves, that those are our ancestors decisions, not ours. But furthermore; what god did you worship until your people were brought here? i'm not agreeing with the slavery decision at all....just think about it....

It is absolutely true that Blacks and Native Americans both continue to suffer today for the abuses they received from Whites in the past.

Whites (and all people) today should do everything in their power to alleviate the suffering and encourage all people, regardless of religion, race, or culture, to find ways to improve their situations. But I am not sure what the answer is. This is not easy. You can't just give handouts because, human nature being what it is, this makes for laziness, which is no service to the people you are giving a handout to. Everyone needs to be given an equal opportunity to work hard for success. The working hard cannot be taken out.

I believe that we are not responsible for the sins of our ancestors. We are only responsible for how we respond to the situation in which we find ourselves. And we do need to realize that Blacks and Native Americans ARE still suffering, and therefore, if we are able, we should do what we can to help, whatever that may be.

Your people? are we not all American? Are we not all Gods children? why do some people try to take the tragedy of people from a different time and make it their own?
Gods children have been treated in horrible ways since the beginning I don't hear the Jews crying because Egypt enslaved raped killed tortured and so on their ancestors its part of the past we have all learned from the past.
I mean some of us have learned from the past and some of us have learned to use the past to benefit our selves

This ongoing ranting of yours is accomplishing nothing. All people at one time or another has suffered some form of persecutions from another group and we all need to stop gnashing our teeth and pointing fingers... instead perhaps it would be far wiser to cultivate a calmer mind that understands this junk arises due to causes and conditions and work to eliminate the negative elements (such as our overblown egos) that keep causing such things to arise, educate and change what you can, quit snuffling and causing more anger and hatred about the rest by name-calling and finger-pointing.
