will they cover whoever borrows your car for a short time and aren't listed on the policy? i know metlife allows this.

I couldn't tell you for sure but most have uninsured drivers on the policy.

personally I got rid of allstate many years ago. I backed into an hay wagon with my car and did several hundred dollars damage. when I received my next premium statement allstate had tripled my premium. I will never have allstate insurance again. I now have State Farm and have had several pretty good claims with them; only one being my fault. My insurance premiums have never gone up more than the normal amount expected each year; but not for calims.

Any insurance policy covers your car, not the driver. So yes, they will cover someone driving with your permission.
