What do you think of the idea of walling off a state and making three sections in it that are divided? Then ,?

instead of sending criminals to prision we send them to the one state facility where they will be placed according to crime. The first divided area would be for first time offenders. When they enter,they are given a one room shack with bed and bath and kitchen. They are given a place to grow their food or can fish and hunt for the rest. No electricity. They wash their own clothes and totally take care of themselves.They may be offered vocational classes to prepare them when they get out. We let them learn from the basics why law and order had to be instituted for society to thrive. They will see how it feels to be subject to robbery and violence. They are free inside the areas. Second area is for more serious offenders and second timers. Third area is for the lifers. There should be no probation for good behavior but they can move forward in the areas. Criminals need to get back to nature and be separated from the world while they are inprisioned.System not working.Comments please?

I didn't say to arm them. They can build traps! Let them develop some imagination to survive so they can for once really appreciate all the world has to offer. I'm talking about taking one big state for everyone's criminals.Each state will have their own judicial system but all criminals go to one state and each area is divided between the sexes. They will have running water or a community well.For sure,I don't have this all worked out but they will learn why we must have organized law enforcement for society to thrive.We would have prison social services and prison medical facilities.

Dear Tangeytr, Please forgive me if I offended you. True,I've never been in prison but I'm thinking I would rather be free to go in and outside and smell the fresh air.I'm sure there would have to be some protection provided from the really bad ones. I mostly just want to see if I can gett people to brainstorm on the current disgusting system they are living in now and learn something to.

I like some of what you want to do, but but I see some big flaws. 1)Each state has to have its own prison system. 2)What happens to the guys who for whatever reason-drought-lack of knowledge or skill- can't get enough to eat? do they starve to death for stealing a car? 3) what stops them from organizing and preying on the unorganized ? The current system can accommodate anything from work release to death row. It has problems but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. ps what about women offenders?

Good luck with all of that. I can only assume that you've never visited a state prison. Go ahead and visit one of those places and you'll see that jail is already pretty bad. Its freakin' disgusting. A lot of convicted felons have been victims at some point in their lives. I do like your idea of a vocational school, but overall your idea probably won't work. How the hell are they supposed adjust to live outside of their "sections"? That would be a tough adjustment to make. They are ppl too...not animals. You should try looking at things from the side of the prisoners before you can make any improvements in the system.

That won't work because a wall has never worked to keep people in or out. If punishment is what you want for criminals, then why not just start cutting body parts off or just killing them? Sticking them in a state and putting a wall around them would not work. On top of that you want to arm them so they can hunt for food. I suspect forcing criminals to get back to nature is simply going to make them more animalistic.
