Most people get hungry too frequently for 2 meals a day to be satisfying, not to mention the known benefits of several small meals a day versus 3 'larger' ones.

Theoretically one could eat all their calories for the day in just 1 meal and be done with it, but the body wouldn't behave the same way it does when we eat smaller meals more frequently.

Actually, you shouldn't be eating 3 meals a day. And two meals is not good for you either! What you SHOULD be doing, is eating 6-7 minimeals over the course of the day. This has several benifits.

Your body will have time to digest all the nutrients from the food.

You won't get as hungry, and thus, won't be tempted to gorge yourself

Your body won't go into 'starvation' mode, so you won't gain weight as easily.

When you eat 3 meals a day it prevents you from binge eating (eating a lot of food at once). You can space out your meals and you won't be as hungry. Eating 3 meals a day will help prevent weight gain.

actually it is better to eat 5 small meals a day because your body is constantly digesting the food and your metabolism is constantly working. This will prevent you from getting hungry in the middle of the day and eat something unhealthy. 3 meals a day is very common, because your body is still sufficiently nurished to work properly during the day and cravings are at a minimum. 2 meals a day is not very good especially if you do alot of excercie because your body will lack energy to work properly and your muscles take longer to heal.

umm, research has indicated that eating many small meals throughout the day is healthier than eating one or two large meals. The metabolism doesnt get over stressed and the digestive processes run at a more constant rate throughout the day.
