Most states (and all Canadian provinces) require a criminal background check of an individual before allowing them to enter ANY form of employment where children are concerned.

It doesn't matter what the charge is for (NOTE: I said "charge" because that is the limit ... you don't even have to be convicted!) - you will be turned down immediately. This applies to working in a daycare environment (either as an employee or as an owner/operator), any teaching profession, janitors for schools, and counselling services for children (like guidance counselors).

Also note - there is no 'statute of limitations' on the fact that you have been charged. It could have happened this morning - or twenty years ago. There's no difference.

A felony? No. You might find someone to hire you. But, should a parent find out, that's the end of the job.

If you're the parent, then you should inquire about criminal background checks at the daycare.

probably not, I worked at a bunch of daycare's and all of them had the same policy: any criminal record at all and they wouldn't hire a person
