I once had a professor ask me to do this riddle that I could never figure out...?

Question

He asked us to use the word "had" six times in a row in a sentence and have it make sense and be legitimate sentence. I still have yet to figure this out. Can anyone figure it out?

Eek! OK. There once was a fellow named Had Had and his son was Had Had Jr. They were out driving one day when Had Sr. noticed the fuel gauge was reading low. Had Had Had had Had Had Jr. stop for gas, they wouldn't be stranded.

No seriously, like all riddles there is a trick or an angle that is so glaringly obvious it's difficult to see. Some people can play, some people can't. I belong to the second category on this particular riddle.
