Ok, I was walking my pitbull, on a leash, about an hour ago to the mailbox in my apartment complex. All of the sudden, another pitbull who was on a leash that was not being held by the owner rushed up to my dog and attacked it. My dog was good and stayed by my side like she was trained, but when the dog was attacking her, she did fight back. I was trying to get control of my dog and in the process my hands are cut up from rope burn on the leash. I was so mad, that I just gathered my stuff up (obviously the mail was dropped all over the ground)...and got my dog away from that crazy dog. Now, I'm starting to wonder if I should call my apt. manager to let her know what happened, just in case that woman...who didn't even say sorry, btw tries to do something crazy. I took pictures of the deep rope burns on my hands, not to sue or anything just to prove that I had the leash, while she didn't. So should I call, or should I not be worried? My dog is fine, btw, don't know about hers.

And don't say pitbulls are bad, if it wasn't for her, that dog would have gone after me. My dog is very well trained and has never attacked another dog.

Definately call the manager and let them know what happened. They probably would want to know so if it DOES happen again, they won't end up in a law suit. You might also try to talk to some of the other neighbors to see if they saw anything. (Witnesses are always a good thing!) And as far as your last comment about pitbulls, I agree with you. If they're trained properly & not encouraged to fight or be agressive, most pit bulls are very good pets. Owners like the one you described give the rest of them bad names!

By calling the police or reporting this their is a strong possibility that the other dog may be put down. That would depend on the history of dog attacks in the area and the dog itself. It's good that you took pictures to keep your dog in the clear. Maybe address the lady- though be care full like you said there are some nutty people out there, and some nutty people love their dogs.

But what if this happens again and instead of your dog a child tries to fight back and gets injured or killed- it wouldn't be the first time a pit or any other type of strong dog killed someone.

Pitbulls are sweathearts when maintained and trained correctly. Not going to say anything more on that though I have had similar experinces and if my dog tried to fight back after a pit attacked he'd be in the ground- I just picked him up over my head until the pit was a safe distance away and then got inside as quickly as possible (growling pit off the leash in the front yard)

There are no bad dogs, only bad dog owners. That dog was obviously not being controlled to the point where you (or someone else) could get hurt.

You really should notify someone, however this situation is touchy because if people hear about a "woman with a pit bull who attacks" they might think it's you since your dogs are the same. Make sure you give a really good description of her, not you, and any major differences in the dog's coloring. If they ignore you, make sure your dog is always on her best behavior on walks (it sounds like she is anyway) and if you see that woman again, make sure you stay away from her. It seems like she's accepted this is the only behavior her dog does, and that's not fair to any other pit bull owners! Only talk to her if both dogs are not present, as you don't want something bad to happen to your dog if provoked again.

Also, (this isn't really related) get a new leash. Leashes wear out so fast, and you can lose your dog due to wear and tear, which could be even worse if its already been strained from the one attack.

I would document the attack, including writing down the details so you don't forget anything later. Notify the apartment management, and file a police report. Depending on where you live, the owner may face restrictions for owning a dangerous dog, including regulations on how she keeps the dog and walks it in public (she may have to use a certain type of leash, or her dog may have to be muzzled).

It's for your own protection and for your dog (you want to have the facts on file in case she tries to twist things around and say it was YOUR fault), and for the protection of other people's dogs. You wouldn't want to hear later about her dog attacking and possibly killing someone else's dog - if she gets away with this, she might think nothing of allowing it to happen again.

I'm glad your dog is OK!

Call the manager and call the police. You and your dog should be protected from people who think it's okay to let their dogs run around w/o a leash. Most states have leash laws and it was NEGLIGENT for the other woman not to have had her dog restrained!

i don't care if it was a pit pull or a basset hound. you shouldn't have to worry about a situation like that happening again. what if it had attacked a toddler instead of your strong, well trained dog.

You should definitely tell your apartment manager about it immediately. I don't know why you'd even hesitate. What if that'd been a small child instead of your dog? The apartment manager needs to know.

I am surprised that an apartment complex allows pitbulls at all - I've never come across one that does - and for good reason.

P.S. Pitbulls aren't bad - just extremely unpredictable, very capable of causing serious damage, and often vicious as your case proves, yet again. I'm not ignorant, just logical.

If the other pitbull is attacking, the apartment manager probably should know. The manager could protect other dogs, other residents, or children in the apartment complex by doing something to prevent another attack.
Good luck with your hands.

I for one, won't say pit bulls are bad, because I have one myself. Pit bull owners who don't handle their dog properly are the ones who are bad. And of course your dog fought back. Any pit would. I think you should inform the apartment management and have them warn your neighbor to keep her dog leashed. You should also report the incident to animal control. Even if they do nothing about this particular incident, they will have a report on file. Since you were hurt because of the woman's negligence, she is lucky if you don't sue her.

While I would do everything to document the attack. I can't help feel sorry for the other Pit who has not been socialized properly. You may try to find some way to save that pit. If you report her then you know they will put the pit down for attacking. Kinda of a catch 22 and a sensitive subject.....

i think of in some circumstances, the father and mom who're condemned are people who've owned what are seen 'battling canines' i.e. pit bull terriers and so on and who've a temperamental nature. in spite of the shown fact that, 'accepted' canines can turn at any given time and it particularly is merely a tragedy whilst a baby gets maimed or killed via their puppy. i think of that's the father and mom' accountability to decide for a canines that's bred for that is quiet nature and that the domestic dogs have come from respected breeders with canines that are used to being around babies. you decide on eyes interior the returned of your head the place babies are worried and can't leave them for a minute unattended at youthful a while, some seconds can mean tragedy if left on my own. All we are able to do as father and mom is our ultimate and stay in wish that our babies by no potential come to harm.
