If its not a trapped nerve, and its just the way your lyin on it, try sewing something on the sleeve of your night shirt etc, like a tennis ball, to stop you rolling over onto it!

Sharon you have a good question technically i would have allot of questions to ask you regarding the numbness such as do you wear a tight shirt at night an when you roll around in bed is it cutting off your circulation if so try wearing a loose shirt to bed #2 its possible if you are cutting off your circulation by wearing a tight shirt how ever if you no its nothing to do with your clothing seek medical attention you could possibly have a clot in your arm if so they will give you a shot called a clot buster that will brake up the clot if it continues seek medical attention i hope you will be fine from a friend Michael

I think it's best that you see your doctor. If your arm 'goes to sleep' as a result of lying on it during the night, feeling shouldn't take long to return. The mention of pain made me wonder whether it could be heart-related at all (although you don't actually state where the pain is) but I can't find any information to confirm that. I did find the link below though, and hope you find it useful.

It does sound like you're sleeping on it, i get the dead feeling, it may last because you've trapped a nerve. Seek medical advise, someone would need to examine you to diagnose an exact cause!!

well it could be the way you're lying but saying that if it is there throughout the day then i'd get it checked out,may just be a wee trapped nerve but it's better to be on the safe side..

I have the same problems with both my arms...the Dr told me it was all down to posture ...the way we stand and sit ...don't know if he is right i was supposed to go to have physio but never bothered as it comes and goes...i have found that mine seems to be worse with stress probably because when i'm stressed i'm restless..hope this helps you
