My mum used to make me take a personal alarm with me when I had a paper round in the morning because no one was around at that time in the morning.
I have got lazy about this in the past few years:
I never have my keys out of my bag before I get to the door so spend a few minutes routing about in my bag to find them, I usually listen to my ipod full blast so probably wouldnt hear anyone behind me. Im a sitting target really!!!!

I carry a 40 caliber alarm which can be pointed at the bad guy and set off...it makes enough noise that someone will call 911. An alarm which does not disable the assailant is of little value; how many people pay attention to car alarms? Quit screwing around and get a carry permit and a pistol.

Yes I carry a noise maker. I tried an air horn first but it was awful akward to use, so I now carry a Ruger .44 Magnum sound blaster. It will hurt everyones ears when it goes off.
It's a real attention getter.
I used to carry my air horn in my jacket pocket. The Ruger fits better under my shoulder in a special carrier.

I don't carry anything. I know that a lot of people may think I am crazy but I like to believe that for the most part, people are good.

Food for thought! If you are in a situation in your house or near your car and have your keys handy you can stop an attack by blowing your horn to attract attention. This would work good in parking lots,if someone was trying to get in your house or doing damage.I tried mine from the furthermost point away from the garage and it works.

My "personal alarm" is blue steel, holds 16 9mm rounds, and is manufactured by Beretta.

no weapons or alarms. I spent half my life learning martial arts, not that i'm very good, but i know that if i can get a punch in, they aren't getting up again.

I carry a mean right hook. It's not really let me down yet.
Failing that I also carry a hefty kick to the groin when needed!
