I am 16 and on Lexapro. Don't know much about Prozac. But I was concerned about meds too. I am on a pretty low dose (Lexapro has very low doses). It has saved me.
Try talking to your doctor about it.

I am not a fan of "prozac" however if your son is in a deep depression prozac could help him out. But make sure that prozac is only prescribed for 1 month ONLY. After that your son should feel better and start view things in a positive matter. Make sure he takes plenty magnesium (pills) and that he gets a decent sleep & rest..

What information has your therapist been able to give you about the drug and it's effects? My ex-husband had my 14 y/o daughter put on Prozac last year, and she seems okay. She didn't even know she had been depressed! Look up the drug on webmd.com and that will list anything the doctor hasn't been able to tell you.

Prozac can cause serious problems.. read up on it, and see if it's something his personality can handle. Always do your homework before starting something like that! And don't always trust what one doctor says, get a second, even third opinion.

This is one of the safer ones. I was even able to take it during pregnancy!
If you son needs help, then let him have help. Do not let him suffer. I suffered as a teen and it was horrible.
