It's not normal, but it's understandable. She probably has a big heart and can't turn away a needy cat. As long as she's caring for them properly, more power to her! : )

It's weird, but since cats are pretty independent they may not all hang around all the time. But it would be really weird and a little concerning if she wasn't taking care of them, like cleaning their boxes (and there better be a bunch of them), having them fixed, actually feeding them in bowls rather than just tearing open a big bag of meow mix or something. She's obviously a cat lover and she's probably just kinda lonely, started off with a few and now the cats are her at-home family.
Cats are kinda funny that way. It's easy to have more than 1 if you have the space. Somehow I ended up with 4 kitties (and a dog). I rescued them all since homeless kittyhood from around my place and they are as free as can be, so really at most there will be 2 home at a time. But even I think 4 is too many for the 2 of us, it's weird, I'm a little embarrassed to tell people.

It depends. If they're well cared for and they're not reproducing, then that's fine. There's no universal number for appropriate pets. There are some people who could manage 15 cats just fine, while other people would be overwhelmed by 1. If the number of cats keeps growing, she may have a problem.
We have to get past the idea of "the crazy cat lady." Animal hoarding is a real psychological condition. Hoarder houses can literally become caked with animal feces. It's extremely unsanitary, but the hoarders don't notice.
If your aunt's house is filthy and you're concerned, I'd recommend contacting social services, animal control, and/or the health department.

Some people think so. It really depends on how she lives. In a small house or apt Yes it would be considered weird. But if I had a farm type house in the country I would have lots of cats and dogs because I do so love them. I'd call it my No Kill Shelter. So its only weird when you don't have room for them and can keep it clean I say. I don't think your Aunt cares about anyone calling her a crazy cat lady.... if she's happy let her be.
Unfortunately for me I am allergic to cats, so I have 2 dogs.

Ha, the crazy aunt with the cats, how cliche. That's how I'm going to end up too!
Seriously tho, 15 cats is a little much, unless she has a HUGE house, and a LOT of money to look after them all properly! I know a few people with multiple cats, and their houses are stinky, even tho cats are inherently clean creatures. I really hope all these cats are vaccinated and neutered, otherwise there'll be a whole lot of disease running through that colony!

No..it isnt weird but I would seriously recommend her getting the cats fixed. Other wise she will have more than she can handle..and FAST. Also for someone that has that many cats you really have to make sure you can take care of that many...as a pet owner we must make sure that we would actually have the money to take all the animals to the vet at one time if needed...and it can be a bit dirty to own so many cats if you dont have the proper set up. Obviously you would have to have alot of litter boxes..preferably 8 with that many cats if not more..and they would need to be scooped EVERY SINGLE day to keep the smell and amonia from becoming toxic. If someone does have the proper set up for that many cats then I say awesome!

No I used to have 12. We had electric litter boxes so it did not smell at all. I just love animals and kept taking in cats that I found on the road plus the ones I already had.

Are you my neice? ;-p I have 6 inside cats and about 12 or so outside cats. I love them, I can't help it. If that makes me the "crazy cat lady" then so be it. I can think of a lot worse to be called.

I think it's weird but that's just me. my grandma had 12 cats and the smell was horrid and she said that she loves and cares for them but she clearly couldn't. she ended up giving about 5 of them away because they were too much for her to handle. she and the cats are much happier now and healthyer also.
hard to believe anyone with more then 4 cats could give the love and attenion that they need.

Nope. Just a lot though. My teacher has 7. Used to have 9. Some people are just cat lovers, and others are overly in love with them, like your aunt, I guess. No offense.
I have one. :). She's awesome.
