Better don't use flaxseed oil. Instead use flaxseed powder and that too refrigerated--do not exceed 3 tsps/day.

Flaxseed oil which is very rich in omega 3--the good fat is very unstable at high temperatures like India's. It goes rancid very fast as a result and becomes unfit for consumption. It can then be used for other purposes like priming wood or mixing in paint as is done widely as linseed oil.
For the above reason, it can also not be used for frying purposes as it turns toxic and can even prove lethal. That is why it was known as poor-man's oil as it is available very cheap as compared to other edible oils till it started taking lives and so it was banned for frying purposes.

You get 3 benefits from using flaxseed powder whereas you get only one with flaxseed oil.

1) Omega 3 as already stated above.

2) Fibre-both soluble and insoluble.

3) Lignans which is an anti-oxidant having mild oestrogen properties and thus good especially for women around menopause. However, I have labelled it as a 40+ powder for it's various advantages and recommend to almost everybody above that age. Children can be given walnuts instead to supplement for Omega 3 which is also a brain tonic.

The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends taking Omega 3 in the dose of 1-2% of your daily caloric intake which 3 tsps of flaxseed powder suffices. This as you must already be knowing is emerging as a cholestrol-buster which is being recognised worldwide.

In India, it is commonly known as 'alsi' and mind my words it is soon going to emerge as a Jewel in the Crown as compared to all other grains/herbs for its beneficial effects on the clogged arteries.

Having said all, a few words of caution ; it is not merely a grain but also a very potent drug which should be used judiciously at the minimum reqd. dose especially in persons taking blood-thinning medicines like Aspirin, warfarin.
