I have a 5 year old, but I don't know if I will ever have any more. Sometimes I see my daughter talking to her dolls or stuff and start to feel like I NEED to have another one so she won't be so lonely. I know there are a lot of only children out there... do you like being an only child?

My son (only child) has asked me to write this message for him. "I like being an only child. Sometimes it is a little lonely, but I make friends easy and the best part is that I don't have to share a room!" I also get to go to very good schools. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a brother or sister, but usually I end up changing my mind and like being an only child the best" (Only slightly edited by me! *smile* - have a great day!)

I am an only child, I cant say that I hate it nor I like it, 'cause there are times where I wonder what it feels like to have an older brother or sister, and it can get pretty lonely at times specially when both of your parents work so much I never get to see them so much.. but on the bright side I don't have to share any spotlight or attention and I am very close to my cousins which usually takes off the feeling of being alone in this world

I am an only child, and usually hated it when I was growing up. All the other kids I knew had at least 1 brother or sister, which made me feel like some kind of a freak. It wasn't intended to be mean, but whenever I met someone new, one of the first questions they usually tossed my way was 'do you have any brothers and sisters?'. I'm in my 50s now, and have left a lot of that in the past, but the scars are still there.

I am 15 and an only child. I have to be honest, I would give anything for a brother or a sister. All of my younger cousins live really close to me so I see them very often, and I consider them my siblings, but I don't see them as much as I would if they really were my siblings, and I don't think I'll ever be able to have the same unbreakable bond with them as which exists between siblings. My 4 younger cousins are from 2 different families, so they all have a brother or sister, and I often find myself longing for the kind of relationship they have. I wish with all of my heart that my parents had had another child, because I can only imagine how wonderful that would be to have grown up with someone and have home videos with them and remember all the birthdays with them and be able to trust someone so wholeheartedly, because you know that no matter what happens they will always be there for you. I have a few very close friends whom I consider my sisters or brothers, but it's not the same

I hate being an only child. I'm not close to my cousins so that doesn't help. So it juss me, mom and dad, it gets lonely. And depending on ur kind of parents they can b more strict and if u get in trouble there is no sibling to cause more, I want a dog or something, I want to go to the amusement park or Disney world with a cousin of friend, it boring by yourself

No. I love being an only child. Although I have a cousin, I like being on my own.

My son and daughter are 2 years apart..he is the oldest. He loves his sister to death, always want to feed her, play with her. They share a room now, and play together, she "tells" on him when he takes things from her. Yes they can get on my nerves at times but I know in the future they will have each other to play with and be with long after I am gone. I am the youngest of 5 girls and love having older sisters who set good examples for me. My child does not suffer at all, I dont get to buy him lots of things cause all he needs is clothes on his back, food, and love from me and his family. He attends a wonderful bilingual pre-school (he's 3) and is able to understand and speak Spanish, and soon his sister will be following in his footsteps!!

I am 52 years old and I was an only child, yes you are able to give more to one child, but what you can't give them is companionship.
My life was a living hell at times, I was so lonely for a child companion. I tended to throw fits, and destroy my things, to retreat into my room for hours. I tried to harm myself, on one occasion, I ended up in therapy(even back then) at the age of nine. I would have gladly given up my piano lesson's, and music lesson's to have been able to have a playmate/ friend.
