Depends on the type of fixed penalty notice.

If you tell me the offence I could be more specific.

However, generally you have 28 days from the date of issue to pay the ticket. If you don't pay within this time, the cost of the fine increases by 50% and you get a further 28 days. If you don't pay within this time, it's dealt with by the Courts. In other words, you will ultimately get the Police coming looking for you.

As I say though, this depends on the type of fixed penalty notice.

If you can be more specific, so can I.

the law is clear if you were caught with a speed camera or red light camera the police have 15 days to serve you with a notice of impending prosecution thereafter you may receive an endorsable fixed penalty notice that should be returned within 21 days with the fine and your license if you are to be prosecuted in court it could take up to 6 months the key thing here is the first notice if you did not receive it within 15 days of the offence then its not valid and can be fought in court successfully you also have aright to a copy of the most recent calibration certificate for the camera concerned the police must provide this if they fail to do so againt you can fight this in court you have aright to question your accuser wether it be human or not

depends what the offence is. If its a speed camera or traffic light camera it can be up to 6 months. If its a parking offence it can be instantly on the spot although parts of London have legislation that allows parking fines to be issued by camera

you have seen a flashing light and wait now for the letter thru the box? It will be quick if the camera was active and if it had filmed you. Enjoy life, drive carefully and park carefully and you will avoid the agony of the official letter. Best of luck mate
