i have a dog living at my home who is very aggressive. he is not mine so i cannot get rid of him. when any unknown female comes into the house he attempts to attack them. he is a big dog too, and there has been a couple times where i have interveened to protect the woman and he goes after me instead - (i have two 'holes' in my foot and one in my arm from him). The owner says he is being "protective" of me.

We have four cats as well, and a 12 year old dog besides the mean one. and the Mean dog, is nice to the other animals except one - we have a female cat who is very timid and shy and i think he knows and he tries to attack her, he has bitten her before, and i think he is liable to cause some real damage to her, but his owner says he is just "playing".

i want him out - i love the guy but he is dangerous. how can someone say this dog is protecting me - when he bites me and being playful when he ATTACKS an animal 5 times smaller than him?

i live with this person. she is there too, i would not watch this dog ever. normally when people come over i put him in the den away from them - and i try everything to keep my cats away from him. i am looking for other living arrangements because i do not want anything to happen to my kitties.

Either the dog goes, owner goes, or you go. There is no need to live like this. The dog is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

He isn't being protective of you! He's being dominant and has territorial aggression. He is the pack leader. You have to gain control. You have to let him know you call the shots.
His owner obviously doesn't know anything about dogs and has just let him get away with it. Why have you got this person's dog anyway? They should have him back, it's not fair on you. If you have to keep him, you need to get help FAST. Get a behaviourist/canine psychologist to come out and see him. If you're not careful, he will seriously injure someone - and you will be liable as you are his guardian at the moment.
Take action NOW.

If its your home and the dog attacks someone, you'll get sued even if its not your dog. I'd have to tell the person to take their dog and move, NOW. Sorry, I love dogs, but vicious dogs can't be trusted, and its not worth what you could lose. How will you feel if this dogs kills your cat? How does it make you feel to see a shy, timid cat get attacked? Think about what its doing to that poor cat. A home should be a shelter from the outside world, so that poor cat doesn't have any shelter. It's not fair.

Basset is right, this dog is going to cause someone to get sued. Plus, it's not protective if you have holes in your body! I had a dog who became aggressive after she had a littler of pups (former owner didn't tell me she was pregnant and refused to take her back after the pups). No one would take her, not even the humane society. I had to have the poor thing put down. :0( Sometimes you can't win. You can try suggesting obedience training, but if his owner doesn't take him, that's not an answer either.

Obviously the dog's owner is deluding himself. It's hard to admit something you love has a big fault, but it's really easy to make excuses.

It may be ultimatum time: the dog gets help from a trainer or someone goes, whether that's you, the other person and the dog, or the dog.

i agree, the dog has got to go. if he was protecting you he would stop biting when he hit your skin. i anyone comes to your home and your dog bites them, especially since you know he can be mean, you are liable for it and will be sued. as for the cat, he might just be playing but that bite one day might turn into something horrible for the poor cat. if the owner of the dog won't do as you ask, you could call the humane society and ask them to take the dog.

Seems as if you have a dog which is the dominate force of the house. You have 2 basic choices get rid of the dog or learn how to take control over him.Sounds like a great case for the dog whisperer.

If the dog bites you, you can always call and report the bite. He isnt your dog so you dont need to protect the dog from being a violent animal

Do you own your home?? If you do and a visitor gets attacked by that dog, it goes against your homeowners insurance! Sounds to me, its not if, its when, is this dog going to kill another animal or a person. Get the dog help or get it out!

The dog needs to go. I don't know who you're living with, but obviously the person doesn't understand the dog is a danger.
