Here are several options. They can all be done individually or separately.
1-Onion Soup Mix mixed in ground beef
2-Liquid Smoke mixed in ground beef

Be advised that none of these are particularly diet-friendly, but here are some personal favorites:
1) Along with the ground beef, mix in a little Italian sausage, chorizo, or even chopped bacon.
2) A little dry soup mix (like onion) or powdered spices like "Old Bay" mixed in with the beef is also good.
3) If your're a fan of strong cheeses like blue or stilton, crumble a little into your patties as well (don't make the chunks too big or else the burger could get "runny.")
I had a few more, but now I'm too hungry to think....sorry!

Are you making a hamburger or are you making a meatloaf? If you're making a hamburger, leave all the extra garbage out (ranch dressing, onion soup mix, bread crumbs, etc.). If you're going to use all that, you're not making hamburgers--you're making tiny, flat, round meatloves. :)
I would suggest flavoring your burger by using plain old ground beef with a little salt and pepper sprinkled on the patties, and using condiments. Portabella mushrooms, roasted red pepper strips, something other than plain American cheese (sharp cheddar, for example, or muenster, feta, etc.), dijon mustard, sauteed onions, etc. It's all about the condiments...with the different combinations you can mix and match, the possibilities are limitless. But please, leave the patties alone!! :)

Visit your local Super Market and visit the Spanish Food isle or frozen food section, grab a seasoning called Sofrito it is a blend of peppers, onions and garlic (it comes either frozen or simply jarred I use the Goya brand)
Sprinkle the meat with a little all purpose seasonings. Add two tbsps of sofrito per pund of beef and you will have an amazing tasting burger.

ranch dressing mix is good. You can also dice an onion and add that to it. A little garlic powder. I also like to use Emeril's essence in mine. You can add soy sauce, wicishire sauce (ok not spelled right), grill seasonings. There are many flavors that can be added to give burgers a kick.

Dry onion soup mix. Lipton even puts a burger recipe on the box.
Take a pat of butter and roll it in your favor herbs or spices. Then, wrap the burger around the butter. When it cooks, the butter will melt and spread through the meat.

My husband is a househusband and does all the cooking (while I toil away at the office). He is the king of Hamburger Helper (way too much he makes). However one creative thing he does is mix in the seasoning from Hamburger Helper and form patties. He puts them on the grill.....yummy!

Italian flavored bread crumbs. Another great addition is mushrooms, if you chop them up really fine you can add them and they keep your burgers moist and delicious. You can also add bbq sauce to the ground meat.

I add garlic powder, salt, pepper, onion (chopped fine) and about a teaspoon of worcestershire sauce per burger in my mix.
