When I pray and ask questions to God to get an answer from him and wait for God to speak. I can't tell if I'm hearing the devil's voice or God's voice. That's how sometimes I get into trouble. Please help, what should I do so I can hear his voice? I already talked to somebody about this at church last Sunday and they say " My sheep knoweth my voice" and that didn't help me. I don't know his voice and I don't know what they're talking about. Please help, I feel like giving up on trying to be a Christian.

Randy...that makes no sense...you are baptized, but not saved. You were not an infant when baptized, so you are believer baptized.

God's "voice" is not always a voice...sometimes its just a thought, or seeing something that suddenly gives you an answer you have been looking for, or simply realizing it yourself. You have to know that you must be quiet and listen for the answer and understand the answer may not be the answer you want to hear. Other than that, there is not a lot I can tell you. Most of us Christians, who are honest, will tell you we have had strugglese with our faith at times...it just comes with the territory.

Dear Randy,

First, let me say to you that going to church or being baptized in water does not make you "born-again" or saved. The term "christianity" has been so misused today that it no longer describes people who have been raised from spiritual death.

Let's start with first things..... The Bible is the word of God. Therefore, when you open the Bible and read, you are hearing God. That is why the Bible is so important to a believer (saved person). Please read this passage in your Bible to confirm what I am saying to you (Jeremiah 36:1-4). I would recommmend that you read the King James Version. Also read 2 Timothy 3:16. These verses tell us that every verse in the Bible is from the mouth of God Almighty. That is why born-again believers have a high regard for the Bible.

Secondly, as you read God's word pray and ask the Lord if you might have some understanding of His word and obedience to what you do understand. Remember, the whole Bible is the word of God so do not come to hasty conclusions from a few verses.

Thirdly, the verses you tried to quote in your question are from John 10. Jesus says there, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." If you will now go to Psalms 119 you will see that a person who is born-again loves God's word and obeys it.

If you are not saved, pray and ask the Lord to have mercy on you. Keep on reading the Bible though because the Lord does things in His own time. Let me also refer you to www.FamilyRadio.com. You can read the Bible right on the computer. They also have many free helps that will assist you.

I hope this will help.

If you are a Christian than you should be saved, because the word saved means that you have asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins and you want him to live with in you -Jesus has saved you from going to hell and you will spend eternity w/him in heaven. Baptism comes after you have committed your life to him aka been saved. Talk to someone at church again about being a Christian and what baptism represents. Maybe if you understand that more you can start to hear God's voice. Please don't give up on being a Christian, He will never leave you, even if you can't hear him he is there.

I feel that God cannot speak to you, because, as he has probably figured out by now, those who hear the voice of god become profits, and profits cannot exist in todays modern world. Not only have we shut ourselves out from nature but our entire civilization is based on science alone, with a few religious wars here and there. You, his creation, would surely take the experience of hearing him the wrong way, even though you asked him to talk to you in the first place. He doesn't want to see you rot in an insane asylum or die on the operating table, surrounded by doctors who think what you experienced is a medical mystery.

I feel the most he could do to keep you alive and sane, and yet answer your prayers is to speak to you in the form of the actions and events that take place in your life.

Fundamentalist Christians believe in predestination. All your wanting can't change what is your fate, any more than your sinning can damn you if God has chosen you. If you are among the Saved, in this worldview, it's all God's will not yours.

Personally I don't think God saves only the Saved; those most loud about that don't display the compassion I'd expect from a Saint.

To know Gods voice , you must know God, and HIs word. You must love God enough to obey Him, and you must know what He wants of you, and the only way you can do that, is to know His word, by not reading it, but studying it and praying about it, as much as you can make time for. The more we know God, and the more we know His word, the closer we become to Hiim, and when we obey Him, He will begin to pour His blessings out upon us, and we receive blessings to overflow. God says obedience leads to blessing, and disobedience leads to curse. SO, by studying the word, praying to God, and obeying, you will begin to know God and His will and purpose for your life, and then SOON you will know how to tell the difference between when its God speaking and when it is the devil. Cuz, yes, they both speak to you. absolutely. Many dont want to know that, but its too bad, thats Gods word. We cant know His voice, if we dont really know Him. and to Know Him, we must know what He says to us. At first, what happens is you do learn Gods word, and when something comes to you, you will automatically see if it lines up against what God says to you. But, when you get to truly know God, the devil gets better at it and will make it a little more complicated, making something really bad seem really good, and you must be on the same page as God in obedience, to just KNOW what is what. And, yes, God will clearly show you. It does take time, and the more you put into it, the sooner you will see absolute amazing results. It takes time, so dont be hard on yourself. Just dedicate yourself daily to knowing God more, and studying His word more and praying More, and pray and wait for it all to come. The Bible is like a giant jigsaw puzzle, fitting together one little piece at a time, till it forms this glorious huge picture that all just fits together perfectly. But, it begins with a piece at a time. and when you see things you dont yet understand, dont get upset, just know you are still waiting for that piece of the puzzle, ask for it, believe it and it will come.
How do you give up being a Christian? You either are or you arent. Nothing on this earth is worth losing our salvation for.
Make a decision to be fully Gods today. God tells us when Jesus comes, we must be fully His or we arent His at all. But, we have His tremendous grace in the process. Ask and ye shall receive.. and it shall be added unto you... oh yes.
Ask, Pray, Wait, and keep believing. See it as a glorious adventure, a journey, not as something that is so hard that you have to do. Want to do it, get excited about it and see the difference.

God speaks to us in different ways. Through our conciseness, dreams and people. It will take time for you to know when God is speaking to you. It is not going to happen overnight so stop thinking that. Just like life has stages so to does your walk in the faith. Be strong stay prayed up and if need more information please email me and I would live to tell you my story.

Blessed

you have to have salvation before you can hear God. and you won't hear His voice like someone you talk to. He talks to you through scripture, other people.
but Salvation is the key to learning and understanding God and the Bible, until you have recieved the spirit, you will stay confused.
