Zane, what you are doing is using a few isolated incidents and painting the entire military in that light. Its not that way at all. 99.9% of what the military is doing in Iraq and Afghanistan is good, you just never hear about it.

For a 0.%, you blame all your Armed Forces for the illegal killings carried out by a few of their number.
How tied up you are, with just reading the horrible News that is refected in the Press, true thats the News that sells the papers.
Everyday in a Iraq and Afganistan, Troops your countrymen and women do work that has nothing to do with holding weapons at the ready. They are involved in building schools repairing hospitals, aiding the sick protecting the young.
The US Armed forces is the 2nd largest after China, like it or not the odds of these types of murders been in it are a sure % but a small 0.%.
1'412,000 Active Personal
858,000 Reserves
As a cross ref the homicide rate per year per 100,000 inhabitants for the US is 5.9 as of the newest figures. which makes the US 35 in the world table.
Do not blame all the members of the US Armed Forces, for the crimes of a few.

have you? murdering innocent people is inevitable. Civilians get in the line of fire, what are we supposed to do?? If a child is running at you with a bomb, do you just stand there and let him blow you up? Innocent people are always around, we cannot control where and what they do.
One more thing, as angry as troops are, we don't kill because it's available. I'm not saying that ALL troops have a great mentality. But just because a number of troops do the wrong thing, it doesn't mean you should not support everyone else. I have met the type that you are probably talking about.. and believe me they've been reported and on trial. Things happen as they usually do in real life.

the sad truth of war is that innocencts die too, even in the most just of causes. It is a cruel, brutal business. But some fights are justifed and when you are scared beyond believe and have only split seconds to decide, bad decisions can be made. But if your willing to listen (read), think about this - Amercian soldiers have gone to great lengths, even risking their own lives, to minimize these causualties. In the first Gulf war an American Special Forces team hiding out on a recon mission were discovered by some Iragi civilians. Rather than harm them the Americans let them go. But since no good act goes unpaid, the Iragis turned them in. They were able to fight off the Iragi army until they were rescued with only a few minor causalties. Some soldiers are bad guys too, don't get me wrong, but by and large you should be proud of men who overwhelmingly act like those in the story I told.

I can think of only one case of murder, though it's likely there have been more. There are, of course, accidents, collateral casualties, etc., but they don't have the same moral force as murder, and prosecution of murderers through the UCMJ can actually show the strength of our position. Leaving crazies to blow up innocents with impunity would show considerably less compassion. It would be nice if there were a simple solution, but this is one of those situations in which there is no good choice, only the possibility of making the best of a bad lot.

Did you honestly just ask post that question on here? Do you know someone over there fighting this war that? Better yet, have you been living in a hole?
Our troops are not killing innocent people. They are helping the innocent people, giving them food, taking care of the wounded when they can. In case you haven't noticed, which obviously you haven't, its IRAQIS using car bombs, its IRAQIS planting IED's, and bombing markets and such..Its IRAQIS killing innocent people. You have a right not to support our troops, THANKS TO OUR TROOPS, and though we were never 'captive', they ARE fighting for our freedom.
My fiance is over there for the second time and being that i see things and hear things directly from him I see more than the bad, and what the media wants you to believe. Get your head out of your behind please.

yes we are murderers..thats why two of my best friends are dead, and why i took a bullet..b/c we're murderers..ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR F*CKING MIND??!! i suppose you might not be, but that would mean that youre some 15 or 16 yr old "prosti-tot" who has no idea what like is like out here in the real world, in this thing we like to call reality. me and my buddies, yes, we've killed people in that hellhole that is iraq..were they "innocent people" as your accusation puts it? well i guess somebody whos not a soldier, not in uniform, and is firing an old soviet AK at american troops might be considered an "innocent person" in the fairy tale land you live in, but under law (international law as defined by the geneva accord and subsequint conventions not "bush law" or "evil republican law" as you might accuse it of being) anyone who is not a UNIFORMED SOLDIER of a SOVERIGN NATION and is carrying a weapon is either A: a terrorist or B: a spy..in either case, you have every right, under international law, to shoot them dead.
now a little military law 101, there are these things called ROE's, (Rules Of Engagement) that decide under what circumstances soldiers are allowed to shoot BACK at their attackers. i served as a flight medic which meant my job involved treating BOTH american service persons AND the iraqi civillians (the true innocents) who had been bombed both by their fellow iraqi's, and foreign insurgents, NOT BY U.S. TROOPS! and in all my personal experiences, thats right I'VE BEEN THERE (have you? didn't think so), u.s. troops are not allowed to fire unless fired upon, and usually that means not until after one of our own has been wounded, or god forbid, killed.
as a medic, i have higher compassion then most combat troops, and that is for everybody, not just my soldiers, but as an airman, it is my responsibility to follow orders, and in cases deemed nesscesary, defend myself and the soldiers i'm treating..(that means kill the bad guys.)
you want to look at people who have lost all compassion for human life, visit any one of the extremist islamic states, the people who have taken the muslim faith and corrupted and destroyed it. i can guarentee you that, if they let you live long enough to hear their answer, they wont let you live much longer then that. they don't care if you do or don't support us and our mission there, you are a westerner, an american, and for that reason alone, they'll torture, mutilate and murder you then blast it all over the internet.
i know 2 of the guys who were involved in the rape/murder of a 14-year old girl and the murder of her family..they have some serious problems, and are paying the price for what they did, but to group all of us, from all branches, in all theaters, together in the same group as those 4 guys is insane and shows a total lack of common sense.

The Soldiers haven't lost compassion for human life. They protect it everyday all over the world and especially in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. I spent 22 years in the military in the medical field and was inspired every day by the commitment of the Soldiers you speak of.
Those who run abortion clinics and support abortion are the ones who have lost compassion for life.

Because it is not the troops who make the decisions to go to war, it is the politicians... Troops are just doing the job that is asked of them.... Human life is not profitable, and that is a sorry fact that will continue to haunt the world, as it has done throughout history... Can we please ask intelligent questions, not obviously opinionated questions... This is a forum of learning, right?

You can't consider it murder, when everyday someone is shooting at them. I don't believe our troops are killing innocent civilians, at least not on purpose. We have to remember that the troops you are talking about are everyday people just like you and I. They are not hired "GUNS" who are only out to kill people. They feel the same about life and death as we do, they have families and children also. They just have a different job than most of us. Try to put yourself in their situation.

There have been a few cases of murder by soldiers in Iraq. In any group of 100,000 people you can expect that there might be murders. Give them weapons and isolation and they might be able to murder someone.
We have every reason to feel that the vast majority of our troops are good soldiers and good Americans.
