Damage to the cell causes the cell to replicate and replicate out of control - and in the wrong place. The result is large lumps of useless tissue - that will often damage the surrounding area - Tumours.
Radiation causes cancer by penetrating the nucleus of the cell and damaging the DNA inside.
Free radicals do this also - This is found in cigarette smoke among other things.
** Edit **
There is always a small chance that a perfectly healthy cell will turn cancerous - Seemingly for no reason.

The answer is simple, When the body is weakened by a very corrosive thing like tar from smoking, our body tries to fight it. When it tries to fight it, the red blood cells go away and the rest of the body suffers. The places were it is taken away, will result in massive damage. Sometimes, after smoking for years, the tar is then "hanging out" on and in the lungs. This causes for the lungs to grow cancerous tumors

It's when your own cells begin to reproduce at an abnormal rate and infect nearby cells. To answer your question why do we get cancer and other illness, i recommend reading this book
Survival of the Sickest: A Medical Maverick Discovers Why We Need Disease
by Sharon Moalem (Author), Jonathan Prince (Author)
That will be able to answer your question.

They haven't discovered all of the causes of cancer yet, but it does appear to be caused by overexposure to things such as UVA rays from the sun or tobacco (this is by no means an exhaustive list).
It seems to be a result of the overindulgent lives that we lead and until we start to realise that it moderation is possible, we won't rid ourselves of it.

I don't know, but CHEMO is more likely to kill you than save you. There is some natural plant or something that CAN cure cancer, but the fda made it illeagel. No, It's not marijuana or anything else like that. The fda would rather make money than save peoples lives. Sadly, everyone seems to be after money and not to help people. The fda, some goverments in the world, oil company owners(they don't care about the enviroment), and most other people. people in the world today make me angry!!!!!!

I'm sorry no answer as to why, my father died from it 2 family members have had it and they are OK now. I think lots is to do with the environment, years ago coal fires people would protect mouth and nose from breathing in smog, now all gas if you have a blocked fire you can die in your own home so from all the homes with gas heating that poison is in the air we breathe, my view.

Cancer is found in everything. From the food you eat to the toothpaste your brush your teeth with. It just depends on whether you body develops it over time or not. Most are lucky. Many are not.

Our cells mutate. A million different things cause cancer. It's a combination of genetic predisposition, environment, and lifestyle.

its got something to do with cell reproduction, as we all know the cells in our body are constantly regenerating, however sometimes a cell will become deformed in the reproduction process and this deformed cell will then start producing more deformed cells and so on and so forth!
anyways it goes something like that. look it up on wikipedia

You can say that about any disease if your asking why we get it. Its just part of life, some illnesses in other animals are vital for food chains etc. human are animals to and as cavemen we hunted etc so i suppose its somthing to do with that.
