My fiance and I are getting married in five weeks...and have been planning the wedding for almost a year and I STILL don't have my ring. The ring isn't the important thing, the commitment is.

He probably is serious, it depends on how he asked you. My husband proposed without a ring. He told me that he knows enough about women to not choose jewelry for them without their input.
Smart man, that's why I married him!
We went to a jewelry store together almost two months later and picked out my ring set together. He let me pick whatever I wanted and bought it for me.
You don't need the ring to be engaged.
If you're not sure, what you should do is talk to him about getting married, ask him how long he thinks you should be engaged before getting married. If he was kidding, you'd know it then. =P

You don't NEED a ring to be engaged.
Start talking about a date for the wedding and getting an engagement picture in the paper.
Congrats!

If he got down on his knee and was serious when he asked, then take it serious. If he just asked you, like, over the phone or something, then I wouldn't take it too serious. Otherwise, yes, BUT I'd want a ring.

Need more info...how/when/where did he ask? Did he sound like he was joking or serious? Have either of you told anyone you're engaged? Have you talked about it since he asked or has it not been brought up again?
I can't really say whether he's serious or not if I don't know the answers to these questions.
But, I'll have to say this--if you don't know, chances are it's not serious. But, if you're unsure, ask him. That's the only way you'll know!

awww honey don't stress that,My husband took 4 years to finally ask me to marry him all because of a stupid ring,He was saving up for one all that time,Because he thought I wouldn't say yes if there wasn't a ring and I told him I would marry him a million times ring or no ring,Don't let some silly peice of jewelry stand in the way of your happiness,That diamond isn't what built your love and it's not what is gonna keep it going

Is money an issue. The ring is just a symbol, the actual marriage is what proves the commitment.

It depends on how he asked you and if he can afford a ring. A ring is just a symbol, the conversation and intent are what really count.

Aren't you the same person who just asked if you should have one last FLING before you get married? So are you engaged or not? Either way, I can tell from both your questions that you are so far away from marriage that you should just let that poor guy go now. You are going to break his heart......
No wonder so many guys hesitate on proposing and dread marriage....
