Burns are graded by the skin layers that are destroyed,so a 3rd degree will one of the worst.Depending on how large and where its located, will also dictate the treatment. Burns are very easily infected, they should be treated by a MD.Prescription burn creams like "Silvadene" are used, along with applying a "sterile" dressing, keeping the area covered and clean and free from irritation, like rubbing on your clothes,or chaffing etc.Infected burns will be "weepy" with a yellow like drainage the surrounding skin will be swollen red and inflamed. Then you will need a MD for some antibiotics. Take care. SW FNP

I would say it would get red and hot and maybe some green/yellow discharge. I would think any 3rd degree burn would need to be seen by a doctor and especially if you think it is infected. You would probably need some kind of antibiotics. I don't know about the organ failure thing being specifically from only an infected 3rd degree burn. Any infection that gets in the blood is serious and may lead to organ failure. Definitely recommend you go to the doctor

Yeah...Third degree is a bad burn...It needs to be treated daily and scarring is highly probable. Get it looked at by a doc
