or watch as ten people you cared about were killed?
i want to see if there is a difference in how people of different religions would answer this.

Can you really honestly pick one? Hinduism bases itself on karma, or the fruits of your actions, with special attention to the intent behind the actions. If you murder ten strangers randomly, that would produce a lot of bad karma. If the ten strangers were going to kill the ten people you cared about and you killed them, the ramifications may not be as harsh. If I had to pick one, I can't say I would be able to pick the last one at all, no matter what the circumstance. The first one, however, is a possibility given the circumstance.
However, killing for me is generally wrong, religion notwithstanding.

I don't know about "murder" 10 strangers, because I wouldn't have premeditated malice if they were strangers that I was being forced to kill. But I'd kill 10 strangers before watching 10 people I love be killed. I'd hate myself for doing so, but with the poor options, I'd have to go with the lesser of two evils, as I saw it. But if the first stranger was the person making me kill...would I be done?

I could never bring myself to kill anyone. I could never live with the guilt.
I could never just stand by and watch as ten people I cared about were killed. I couldn't live with the grief.
So, I guess I wouldn't choose. If I'm dead, I wouldn't have to live with the fact that I survived while ten people (that were connected to me either by caring about them, or dying by my hand) were killed. And if I am dead too, then I will see them on the next plane of existance (or whatever the afterlife may be) and at least I can say, "Hey, I'm right there with ya!". To me, it would be the most honorable choice.

Taking the question for what it is and not inventing alternatives, I would kill the strangers.
I probably wouldn't be able to live with myself afterward, though. I'd end up suicidal.
But I wouldn't "kill" the people I cared about most.

Anyone with an ounce of integrity would kill the strangers.
It takes more strength and honor to carry out your decison and live with it; than to whine about your remorse or become consumed by guilt.

I would probably kill myself and save 20 people, especially my ten loved ones.

I wouldn't murder, and I wouldn't watch. If someone insisted on killing people I care about, I would offer to exchange my life for theirs. I sure hope this scenario ever comes up.

I hate these questions! I'd kill the strangers but I'd be very, very, disturbed at what I had done.
