I've seen a couple of white cats with their ears affected by skin cancer, it does happen. I live in England, so not a particularly hot climate! My sister's cat has white ears, she always used to put sun block on them, as advised by the vet, but gave up after the first couple of summers as Nina (kitty) always just washed it right off! It is a good idea tho, I would certainly try it if I had a white-eared cat out in the sun at all.
