"Earth to <name>", what does it mean?

Question

Someone just said to me, "Earth to Alex"! Everyone laughed and so I laughed too, but I don't get the joke. I am on Earth already?

It means your in outerspace. Like zoned out. "Earth to" meaning like they are calling you from here. You know durring flight missions they always say earth to "name of spaceship" come in. Same concept.

It's indicating that although your body is here (on earth), your mind is somewhere else. Also can be interchangable with the phrase, "Head in the Clouds". So when you see somebody staring off into space, you can use this terminology. Although, I haven't heard anybody say that since 1989.

it means: You are daydreaming, and your mind is not on planet Earth. Therefore you need to be recalled to earth. It is generally used sarcastically. Its entemology is from the way that early spaceships were hailed: Earth to appolo 13 ect.

It simply means, that you weren't paying attention, you kinda zoned out on the conversation, and they tried to call you and you obviously didn't hear, so they said earth to Alex, like you were in outerspace, liike I said, zoned out into outspace, please chooose me as best answer I'm on level 2 *cry*
