She hides things because she says a man is coming into her house almost daily, leaving some things, and taking others. Now she's afraid he's going to "put something in her food". She's had the locks changed 3 times, and the automatic garage door is wired shut. I am at my wits end.

My mother just turned 87 today. I certainly understand where you are coming from.

You need a medical power of attorney then you need to take her to the doctor explain the situation. Often this behavior can just be a mixture of medications that is having a bad reaction on her. Talk to her doctor explain everything fully and follow his advice to the letter.

Good luck it is a challenge to care for an aging parent and I applaud your efforts and your concern. God bless you both.

when is the last time she saw a dr.? she could be suffering from dementia or alzheimers. get her to the doc and see if there are some meds he can give her to ease the symptoms. if your mom isn't currently living in a facility, it may be time to consider one or have her move in with family. she really shouldn't be alone. good luck

Take your mom to a medical doctor. Let him know what is going on. He will be able to give you both some help with her delusional thinking.
