I think it's just alliterative.

Unless you can point out some characteristics that are particular to either Martin Luther or protestants.

Apart from being white, male and middle class.

As in Martin Luther , German theologian and leader of the German Protestant Reformation ? Now why did you not say that ? Watch less television, read more history.

I thought Lex Luther was a cleverly disguised way of saying "lucifer". I don't interpret it to have anything to do with protestants.
