If we are to believe what he says he thinks about homosexuality, it is hard to believe that he would then choose to be attracted to members of the same sex. I'm a heterosexual, an Eastern Orthodox Christian, and I think homosexual acts are immoral, but, on the other hand, I have always felt that the Evangelicals who claim that people choose to be gay makes absolutely no sense. Who we are attracted to is a passion, it is just something that happens to us, what we do about it on the other hand is a choice.

I meant "Has Ted Haggard's case SHOWN..." Sorry for the typo. I hate typos so much!

Well I don't really think it matters. We are all born in sin...we all sin and have to work (with God's grace) to resist temptation. If we sin...we choose it...just as homosexuals choose to sin through the sexual act.

If someone is attracted to the same sex...they have a cross to bear. They should be celibate. I know that sounds harsh in this "free for all sex" world we live in. The idea that someone might go without sex is totally beyond most of us. But...sex is not as important as salvation.

God does not promise us an easy life here on earth. This is the time to seek Him, to desire Him above all things. It's true he wants us to be happy...happy in salvation through Christ, not happy with the things of this world.

Do you think a pedophile is born that way? What of them? Would anyone CHOOSE to be attracted to children? I think not. But it is a perversion...it is a sin. We are all tempted by sin and all called to not give into that temptation.

Homosexuals (many of them) are claiming that their temptation must be okay...they want it to be okay to sin. It's never going to be okay. Pornography is accepted and legal...but it's still a sin. Just because society says it's okay...doesn't make it so.

If you notice...in the Bible...the "crowd" is often wrong and not the group to follow!

Oh no,they cleared that up with Haggard.... supposedly, according to his close friends, he's been "cured of homosexuality". Some will do anything to cover up their own flaws... if others think they're healed then they won't bring it back up (but they will on others).

Agreed!!!! That type of thing starts happening when we go into puberty. I don't recall making a conscious choice that I would be heterosexual... it's just something that happened. But, I think the reason so many Evangelicals use that whole "choice" thing is that it makes it easier for them to degrade homosexuals. They always equate this to "well you choose to murder, to lie, etc... so this must be a choice as well" Which is really silly... homosexuality isn't just the act... it's emotion towards a particular people. To say it's a choice is to say you chose to love your mother. (I've actually had some say that yes they did chose to love their mother... it didn't just happen, to avoid this little corner all together)

Well apparently Ted Haggard went into gay rehab, so he is supposed to be "cured" now. I suppose time will tell if that's really the case.

There was another person in here on this forum who was having a similar problem with her sister who married a "ex-gay" only to find out he was still gay.

I know ONE thing, I wouldn't want to be Ted Haggard's wife right now, gay rehab or not. You will ALWAYS be wondering whether he is thinking of you or fantasizing about a man when making love.

The only thing that Ted Haggard proves is that many high-level Christians are actually hypocritical atheists. How else could he be so two-faced and not expect to be smited?

I'm not sure whether it proves that homosexuality is not a choice (I believe it isn't, by the way) because he is clearly a liar. Whether he chose to be gay or not, this was not a lapse into homosexuality. He is gay and uses a hypocritical public persona--the guise of "morality"--to hide. We can't draw many conclusions from that sort of behavior.

That still won't change people's mind about how they feel homosexuality is a choice. They might still believe many people choose to be gay just to get more into the spotlight and take part in the so-called gay fad. Their right about one thing, acting on it is a choice (not saying anything is wrong with that). Feelings however, are not.

"Evangelicals who claim that people choose to be gay makes absolutely no sense. Who we are attracted to is a passion, it is just something that happens to us, what we do about it on the other hand is a choice."

Yeah but, where does the passion come from? NOTHING JUST HAPPENS! If you dig a little deeper you will find the answer.

Yes, the case of Ted Haggard has given the fundies much food for thought on this topic. Unfortunately, they're mentally anorexic.

If even this man, who has made a lot of money and gained a huge following exploiting the Jesus™ brand name, can't manage to keep himself from snorting meth off the butts of gay hookers, it rather belies the idea that such behavior is "chosen." But reality has never swayed a "Christian" from his faith. It feels good to be allowed to hate people on grounds of piety; and Augustine has provided them with a nice little rhetorical dodge so that they don't even have to give up their concept of themselves as compassionate "agape" Christians: "Hate the sin, love the sinner."

Well, my position is "Hate the religion, love the religious." In other words, you're totally, completely, utterly WRONG, but don't take it personally! I love you anyway! See how obnoxious that is?

Matthew 19:12 For there are some eunuchs, that have been so born from their mom's womb: and there are some eunuchs, that have been made eunuchs of adult adult males: and there be eunuchs, that have made themselves eunuchs for the dominion of heaven's sake. Okay, I have to say, that man is just GAY. He is gay, he has always been gay, and he will always be gay.

This is a simple fact. Since there is no getting around that, I guess we have to realize that people are just born the way they are.

That man never had a chance. It really bothers me that he felt compelled to live such a lie his entire life just because of some beliefs some people drilled into him. THAT is a crime that I charge Christianity with.

Ted, I doubt I would really care for you personally, but you are welcome in my community and you can be who you really are. There is no shame in who you are.

Sexual Orientation is not really a choice.

The whole ex-gay movement is based on a debunked psychological method.

However, my question to you is this--how do you reconcile your belief that homosexual sex is sinful with the belief that it is not a choice?
