I am Muslim, and The Prophet Muhammad became an orphan at a young age, his mother and father had died--and he was raised by a combination of people as a youth--including an uncle...Before the Koran was revealed to him--before he became a Prophet--the majority of Arabs in his community were all Pagans--but Muhammad was NOT a Pagan. The people used to worship statues; but Muhammad did not. One day while alone (on a mountain I think) the Angel Gabriel--the Arch Angel that is spoke of in the Bible and the Torah--came to him and spoke to him, and spoke to him God's direct message--all of which became the Koran.

I am almost certain that the Prophet Muhammad's uncle (who raised him) was NOT a Christain--and Christianity was NOT practiced in that region at the time---but I could be wrong, and If am--someone please give the correct answer.

Mohammed's religion prior to Islam was most likely Arabian Paganism mixed with some Christian knowledge.

Islam did not exist prior to Mohammed or the Quran, that is ridiculous to believe that being that Islam venerates Mohammed as the last and final Prophet and that the Quran is the holy book of Islam.

He didn't have a religion per se, he was actually brought up within a Pagan plethora but if you actually study his life you'd know the reason why he went up to the mountains was to get away from that.

His uncle wasn't Christian...

He undoubtedly had many influences from his community and family life but there is no evidence to suggest that he practised in any religion, he was just a good man who was given a special message!

Islam exisisted prior to Muhammad....Adam, Jesus, Abraham, Moses and so on....so just because he was revealed the Quran does not mean he, or anyone one else, were not Muslim prior to the revalation of the Quran.

From the books I've read about Muhammad (SAW), he didn't practice the religion of the Quraysh (his tribe) or the religion of his uncle (who was Christian).

He observed the Pagan Idolatry of his tribe because it was essential to the socio-economic balance of the time.
