When people think about cardio they usually think about going to the gym and getting on machines like the ones you have listed but there are tons of options. Here are a few that you may want to try.

-Rock Climbing (Burns 380 calories per 30 min on average)

-Swimming (can burn upwards of 600 calories in an hour)

-Wheel Chair Basketball or Sprints (Can burn 500 calories in an hour and is an intense upper body workout that doesn't involve the legs at all)

-Canoeing (another great upper body workout that can burn upwards of 400 calories an hour)

-Certain kinds of Aerobics (various programs on the market...good programs can burn several hundred calories per hour).

Try giving some of these a try and see how your knees hold up. If you can find a wheel chair basketball league in your city or town I strongly recommend giving it a try. You don't use your legs at all and its a great upper body burn. Hope this answers your question!

Your knees are going to hurt at first. . . especially if you're not used to working out, you need to build them up. My guess would be with walking and biking that you are extending your knees too far. Be sure you keep the in a good position when stepping or cycling forward. Your leg should not open all the way when walking or biking, this will cause irritation. I know it sounds crazy but walking is something a person has to learn how to do when exercising. So keep an eye out for that. The elliptical is a low impact cardio work out. It was created for people with joint (knee, hip, and ankle) problems. I would put money on it that you are doing it wrong. If these all fail try swimming. There isn't an upper body cardio workout worth waisting your time on. You can figure something out, but you'll really be doing your body no good. Go to a gym and ask a trainer to spend 10 minutes with you to show you how to use the machines correctly, that's their job is to make sure people aren't getting hurt in the gym. Good Luck!

try swimming, its one of the best things you can do and if done the right way, it shouldnt hurt your knees at all and if it does then put half of your body on a floaty and use only your arms to move you around.
